    • A device and method are disclosed for reducing the power consumption of a wireless radio device in establishing a wireless connection by predicting a probability of a positive correlation. The wireless radio device may power up a radio receiver of a connectable device to receive a portion of a sync word from a requesting device, determine a correlation value based on the received portion of the sync word and an expected sync word and if the correlation value is less than a threshold value, power down the radio receiver of the connectable device. Additionally, if the correlation value is greater than a threshold value, the entire sync word may be received from the requesting device and a correlation value may be determined based on the entire sync word and the expected sync word.

    • An embodiment of the present invention provides an automatic gain control system for a wireless receiver that quickly differentiates desired in-band signals from high power out-of-band signals that overlap into the target band. The system measures power before and after passing a received signal through a pair of finite impulse response filters that largely restrict the signal's power to that which is in-band. By comparing the in-band energy of the received signal after filtering to the total signal energy prior to filtering, it is possible to determine whether a new in-band signal has arrived. The presence of this new in-band signal is then verified by a multi-threshold comparison of the normalized self-correlation to verify the presence of a new, desired in-band signal.

    • A mobile communication device capable of dynamically sharing antennas is disclosed. The mobile communication device includes a wireless local area network (WLAN) control circuit to generate a Wi-Fi signal, a Bluetooth control circuit to generate a Bluetooth signal, and a cellular control circuit to generate a cellular data signal. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth control circuits are coupled to a first antenna, while the cellular control signal is coupled to a second antenna. The mobile communication device further includes an antenna sharing logic coupled between the control circuits and the first and second antennas. The antenna sharing logic is configured to selectively couple either the Wi-Fi control circuit or the Bluetooth control circuit to the second antenna based, at least in part, on a level of activity of the cellular control circuit.
