    • An optical transmitter and receiver module which can enhance a coupling comprises a light source emitting the first light, a light-receiving section receiving the second light, a diffraction device changing the direction of travel of at least one of the first light and the second light, a first lens which condenses the first light, outgoing from the light source and entering through the medium of the diffraction device, onto a light input/output face of the optical fiber and condenses the second light outgoing from the optical fiber onto the light-receiving section through the medium of the diffraction device, and a second lens which inhibits a beam of the first light outgoing from the light source from diverging and allows it to enter the first lens through the medium of the diffraction device.

    • In an image display apparatus including a delta-array display device and pixel position transition means for repeatedly shifting the respective pixel positions of the display device to each of positions at four points, the pixel shifted positions at the four points are: a first pixel position serving as standard; a second pixel position shifted with respect to the first, standard pixel position horizontally approximately by ½ of horizontal pixel pitch; a third pixel position shifted horizontally approximately by ¾ or ¼ of horizontal pixel pitch and vertically approximately by ½ of vertical pixel pitch; and a fourth pixel position shifted horizontally approximately by ¼ or ¾ of horizontal pixel pitch and vertically approximately by ½ of vertical pixel pitch. The image display apparatus is thereby provided as having an improved, doubled resolution in both vertical and horizontal directions by applying the 4-point pixel shift system to the delta-array display device.

    • An image display apparatus including a liquid crystal display panel (LCD) constituting an image display plane composed of a plurality of pixels arranged with a pixel pitch, a LCD driver circuit which receives an input image signal S1 and displays an image on a substantially whole image display plane of the LCD as well as a part of the image on a selected region C of the image display plane by selectively shifting image display positions of the image with respect to inherent positions on said image display plane in a given direction by an integer multiple or an inverse of an integer multiple of the pixel pitch of the LCD, and a pixel shift driver circuit which effectively and selectively shifts, in synchronism with the operation of said LCD driver circuit, said image display plane in a direction opposite to said given direction in which said image display position shifting is carried out. Even if the LCD has a larger number of scanning lines or the pixel shift operation is performed by a larger number of times, the resolution can be effectively improved.

    • A small-sized, lightweight and inexpensive visual display apparatus which enables observation of a full-color image at a wide field angle, which is clear and flat as far as the edges thereof, without using a costly element such as a polarizing element. The visual display apparatus has an image display device (4), and an ocular optical system for projecting an image formed by the image display device (4) and for leading the projected image to an observer's eyeball. The image display device (4) has a louver (10) for limiting the viewing angle. The ocular optical system has two semitransparent surfaces (2 and 3). The second semitransparent surface (3) is a curved surface which is concave toward the observer's eyeball side, so that light rays emanating from the image display device (4) first pass through the second semitransparent curved surface (3), and are reflected by the first semitransparent surface (2). The reflected light rays are further reflected by the second semitransparent curved surface (3), and then pass through the first semitransparent surface (2) to enter the observer's eyeball. Further, the two semitransparent surfaces (2 and 3) are disposed such that at least the first semitransparent surface (2) is decentered with respect to the observer's visual axis directed to see the center of the projected image.
