    • Methods and apparatus for providing ballistic protection and stopping high-velocity rounds or explosives. A ballistic panel for providing protection includes a three-dimensional core designed as a structural truss that includes a plurality of nodes and provides structural support of the ballistic panel, a ceramic grinding layer that includes a plurality of ceramic grinding media that fills in the nodes of the core, an elastomeric, self-healing outer coating that encapsulates the ceramic grinding layer and a backing affixed to a non-threat side of the ballistic panel. The core absorbs and dissipates force from projectile and explosive force impacts on the ballistic panel and the ceramic grinding layer re-directs and causes the projectiles to break apart.

These and other advantages may be provided by a secure trash can for containing explosions resulting from explosive devices deposited in the secure trash can. The secure trash can includes a curved wall, including an inner liner, a curved ballistic panel, including a three-dimensional core that defines spaces and acts as a truss for ballistic panel and a filler, the filler fills in spaces defined by the three-dimensional core, an outer layer, surrounding the curved ballistic panel, and a base, connected to the curved wall. The secure trash can may also include a lid, placed on the curved wall.

    • A sandwich panel has a core formed of a plastic sheet having columns of equally spaced points displaced from one side, and other columns of similarly spaced points displaced from the other side, the columns on the two sides being interleaved and the points in adjacent columns on the same side being staggered, with the points in the other-side columns being disposed in rows with the oncoming one side column. The displaced points on a side form somehat cone-like structures which intersect the cone-like structures formed by displaced points on the other side to form structures constituting tetrahedrons and octahedrons when assembled and cemented between the layers of a panel. An apparatus and method for forming the core from a heated plastic sheet, involve passing the sheet between two rollers having projections which displace the points to each side. Another apparatus and method involve forming core shapes over stationary projections. Complex and compound structures may be created. Tetrahedron sandwich panels may also be formed by displacing core material from material which will constitute outside layers.

    • Methods and apparatus for providing ballistic protection and stopping high-velocity rounds or explosives. The apparatus may include a ballistic panel for providing ballistic protection. The ballistic panel includes a core that includes a plurality of node cells, an intermediate layer that surrounds the core and fills in the node cells, and an outer coating. The ballistic panel absorbs the force of high-velocity, ballistic, low-velocity, and high foot pound pressure rounds, fragments, and impacts and is capable of completely capturing such ballistic rounds and fragments without external deflection or complete penetration through ballistic panel.

    • A portable compact sauna wherein a user's body is warmed to sweating primarily by direct absorption of infrared radiation. Broad infrared radiation emitters or sources are placed around the inside of a narrow cabinet so as to be in close proximity to various parts of a seated user. Fins spaced apart less than finger-width on the emitters protect the user from contact with elevated temperatures in the emitters. The emitters, which lend themselves to easy cleaning, are heated by electric infrared heaters having a unique design which eliminates extremely-low-frequency (ELF) electromagnetic field (EMF) normally generated by AC energized electrical heater elements, to provide low extremely-low frequency EMF saunas able to utilize conventional-commercial electrical-energy sources. The emitters protect the heaters. Power wires for the heaters are arranged for low ELF EMF emission, too.
