    • An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit that forms multicolor toner images superposed on a transfer belt. A sensor is disposed in an image formation region and detects a pattern on the transfer belt. A controller determines, when image data is received, whether or not a region of a toner image based on the image data will be superposed on a region of the pattern. The controller controls the image forming unit to form the toner image based on the image data and the pattern simultaneously on the transfer belt when the controller determines that the region of the toner image based on the image data will not be superposed on the region of the pattern.

    • Color TV signal data picked up from an NTSC video disc is separated by a separation filter into a first chrominance signal (1.52 MHz) and a luminance signal. In this case, the rotational frequency of the video disc is set such that a horizontal line frequency of the luminance signal is 15.625 kHz, which is the line frequency of a PAL signal component. The first chrominance signal (1.52 MHz) is converted by a frequency converter to a second chrominance signal (4.43 MHz). The second chrominance signal (4.43 MHz) is supplied to the first input terminal of a switch through a 45.degree. phase shifter and directly to the second input terminal of the switch. The switch alternately selects the first and second input terminals thereof in response to a burst gate pulse, whereas the switch selects only the second input terminal during any period other than the burst period. A third chrominance signal is then produced at an output terminal of the switch. The third chrominance signal is supplied to a modulator. A carrier signal having a frequency (8.86 MHz) twice that (4.43 MHz) of a subcarrier is supplied to the modulator for every other line so as to perform the R-Y axis processing. Therefore, a PAL chrominance signal appears at an output terminal of the modulator.

The signal converter includes a signal input terminal which receives an original signal having chroma signal components which are quadrature-modulated on a subcarrier having a frequency f1, a signal output terminal for producing a converted signal having chroma signal components which are quadrature-modulated on a subcarrier having a frequency f2 (where f1.noteq.f2), a first signal generator for generating a first continuous wave signal having a frequency equal to a difference between the frequencies f1 and f2, a second signal generator for generating a second continuous wave signal having a frequency equal to a sum of the frequencies f1 and f2, a modulator for producing a first modulated signal by multiplying a signal corresponding to the original signal received by the signal input terminal by the first continuous wave signal and for producing a second modulated signal by multiplying the signal corresponding to said original signal by the second continuous wave signal, a line changeover switch for alternately switching between the first and second modulated signals from the modulator for each successive line, and for supplying a selected signal to a signal transmission line coupled to the signal output terminal, and a filter interposed between the signal output terminal and the modulator, for extracting the chroma signal components to be produced from the signal output terminal from the first and second modulated signals.
