    • An in-ear interface comprises an ear module shaped to be received in an ear canal. The ear module has a core defining a sound bore for enabling sound transmittance into the ear canal. A sheath covers a portion of an outer surface of the core so as to define an expandable space between the sheath and the core. An opening is defined in the core communicating with the expandable space whereby the expandable space is adapted to receive a settable compound to expand the ear module to the shape of the ear canal. An insert is secured to the ear module and has a slender portion received at least partially in the sound bore to generally maintain a shape of the sound bore during reception and curing of the settable compound in the expandable space.

    • An expandable in-ear device being implantable within an ear canal of an individual and being customizable in-situ to the shape of the ear canal, and cavum concha, using a settable compound. The device includes a core-form with a nipple extending from a platform, the nipple and the platform being insertable into the ear canal and the cavum concha, respectively. A sound bore extends through the nipple from a position located outside the ear canal to a position located inside for allowing sound transmission therethrough. A deformable sheath attached integrally to the core-form is deformable between an unfolded configuration and a folded configuration. In the unfolded configuration, the sheath extends generally away from the core-form. The sheath is foldable inside-out from the unfolded configuration to the folded configuration wherein the sheet substantially covers the core-form while defining a spacing between the sheath and the core-form, the spacing being fillable by the settable compound.

    • Apparatus for indicating the thickness of a document being fed along a feed path comprises cooperating upper and lower roll sets (20 and 32) between which a document passes. The lower roll set (20) is driven by the document transport, while the upper roll set (32) is rotatably mounted on a pivotally mounted arm (36), which is urged by a spring (42) to cause the upper roll set (32) to move toward engagement with the lower roll set (20). The upper roll set (32) includes a central cylindrical portion (30) of reduced diameter. A further roll (46) is mounted so that its circumference is normally spaced from the surface of the cylindrical portion by a predetermined distance. A timing disc (52) is mounted for rotation with the further roll (46), and a sensing device (58) is associated with the timing disc (52) to generate pulses as the further roll (46) rotates. If a document of more than a predetermined thickness equal to the predetermined distance passes between the two roll sets (20 and 32) the upper roll set (32) is rocked and engages the further roll (46) to rotate the further roll and the timing disc (52). Pulses are generated, indicating a document in excess of said predetermined thickness. Counting of the pulses by a data processor (68) enables the apparatus to distinguish between a crease in the document and an entire document in excess of said predetermined thickness.
