    • Some embodiments can concern an apparatus configured to detect an electrical state of one or more electrical devices. The one or more electrical devices are coupled to an electrical power infrastructure and generate one or more high-frequency electrical signals on the electrical power infrastructure. The apparatus can include: (a) a processing module configured to run on a processor of a computational unit; and (b) a sensing device configured to be coupled to an electrical outlet. The sensing device can have: (a) a data acquisition receiver configured to receive the one or more high-frequency electrical signals via the electrical outlet and convert the one or more high-frequency electrical signals into one or more first data signals when the sensing device is coupled to the electrical outlet. The electrical outlet can be electrically coupled to the electrical power infrastructure. The sensing device is in communication with the computational unit. The processing module is further configured to identify the electrical state of the one or more electrical devices at least in part using the one or more first data signals. The high-frequency electrical signals comprise electrical signals in the ten kilohertz to three megahertz range. Other embodiments are disclosed.

    • Some embodiments teach an electrical device configured to emulate a high frequency electrical noise signal on an electrical power line. The electrical device can include: (a) a monitoring module configured to detect usage of electrical power from an electrical power line by a first one of one or more electrical appliances; (b) an emitter module configured to generate an emulated high frequency electrical noise signal, the emulated high frequency electrical noise signal emulates electrical noise from a switch mode power supply; (c) a first electrical coupling mechanism configured to couple to a first one of the one or more electrical outlets; and (d) a second coupling mechanism configured to couple to the first one of the one or more electrical appliances.     • Some embodiments concern a method of isolating low amplitude signals in one or more electrical signals. The method can include: using a data acquisition device to acquire one or more electrical signals; using a first processor to compute one or more first parameters related to the one or more electrical signals; using the first processor to determine one or more first portions of the one or more electrical signal that comprise one or more transient signals; using the first processor to selectively mask the one or more first portions of the one or more electrical signals to create one or more output signals; and adjusting a gain of the data acquisition device based upon one or more second parameters of the one or more output signals.
