    • Disclosed is an electrophoretic display and a method for driving the electrophoretic display. The method for driving the electrophoretic display, which includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and an electrophoretic layer including electrophoretic particles disposed in a plurality of pixels receiving the voltage for driving from the first electrode and the second electrode and provided between the first electrode and the second electrode includes applying a reset voltage to the pixels, applying a reset compensation voltage including reversed polarity to the reset voltage to the pixels, applying an image display voltage including the same or different polarity during a predetermined time between the neighboring pixels, and applying an image display compensation voltage including reversed polarity to the image display voltage to the pixels during a predetermined time. The foregoing method provides a potential distribution which is symmetrical in the boundary region between the neighboring pixels such that the display size of the real image of each of the pixels is uniform and an afterimage may be prevented, thereby improving the display performance.

    • A display panel includes first and second substrates. The first substrate includes a light blocking layer having an opening through the light blocking layer. The opening is arranged in a pixel area. The second substrate includes first and second transistors, first and second driving electrodes, and a shutter. The first transistor is turned on in response to a low level control voltage. The second transistor is electrically connected to the first transistor and is turned on in response to receiving a low level voltage from the first transistor. The first driving electrode is electrically connected to the first transistor, and the second driving electrode is electrically connected to the second transistor. The shutter exposes or covers the opening by moving to the first driving electrode or the second driving electrode according to the relative levels of voltages applied to the first and second driving electrodes.

    • A display apparatus includes a display panel and a backlight unit. The display panel includes a first substrate and a second substrate. The first substrate includes a first base substrate and a wavelength transforming member. The wavelength transforming member is formed on a first surface of the first base substrate to change a wavelength of light to emit visible light having a predetermined wavelength. The second substrate includes a second base substrate and a light shutter member. The second base substrate faces the first base substrate. The light shutter member is formed on a first surface of the second base substrate facing the first surface of the first base substrate. The light shutter member controls light transmittance of the light received from the wavelength transforming member. The backlight unit provides the display panel with the light. Thus, color purity of image is increased, thereby improving image display quality.
