    • A waveguide junction circulator for a high power application at a high operating frequency. The circulator includes a plurality of connecting waveguides, each of which has a standard height dimension corresponding to the operating frequency; a resonance cavity; a plurality of spaced and cooled, superposed metal plates covered with ferrite discs disposed in the cavity; a magnet disposed outside the cavity for generating a magnetic field oriented perpendicular to the ferrite discs and penetrating the cavity; and a plurality of junction arms each having one end communicating with the cavity and another end forming a connection with a respective one of the plurality of connecting waveguides. The circulator has a height dimension in its region penetrated by the magnetic field that is reduced by at least 20% compared to the standard height dimension of the connecting waveguides. Each connection presents a transition from the connecting waveguide to the junction arm that has a sudden change in cross section from the reduced height of the circulator to the standard height of the connecting waveguide. Reactance elements are provided in the junction arms to form multi-section filters.

    • A phase shifter suitable for operation at very high high-frequency power is composed of a waveguide in which ferromagnetic material is distributed along at least one plane extending in the direction of wave propagation. The ferromagnetic material is exposed to a static magnetic field oriented parallel to the plane. The ferromagnetic material is shaped so that it forms a plurality of three-dimensional regions which extend in the direction of the applied static magnetic field from one waveguide wall to the opposite waveguide wall. These regions may be provided by a plurality of ferromagnetic rods, preferably housed in one or more dielectric containers to direct a flow of coolant fluid, or by a ferromagnetic body having a plurality of bores. Such bores also preferably direct a flow of coolant fluid.

    • A method for compensating nonlinearities of a transmission member in a radio relay transmission system by means of a linear converter having a linear gain characteristic and a harmonic generator converter having a nonlinear characteristic, in which an intermediate frequency signal modulated a useful signal is converted by a local oscillator signal into a radio frequency signal and the output signals of the two converters are linked together by a network. The method further includes: setting the operating point of the harmonic generator converter in a manner to cause its output signal to be essentially composed of components corresponding to the useful signal and to third order intermodulation products thereof; modifying the harmonic generator converter output signal by substantially suppressing the useful signal component from that output signal and setting the amplitude of the remaining third order intermodulation products component of that output signal; setting a relative phase position between the modified output signal of the harmonic generator converter and the output signal of the linear converter; and combining the modified output signal of the harmonic generator converter and the output signal of the linear converter subsequent to setting the relative phase position.
