    • Methods and devices receive a print job, evaluate the print job to identify job parameter settings and associated sources of the job parameter settings, transmit the job parameter settings and the associated sources to a database, and transmit the print job to a marking device to cause the marking device to print the print job. These methods and devices also provide access to the database to view the job parameter settings and the associated sources, and/or change the job parameter settings. The access to the database is provided before and/or after the marking device prints the print job. When evaluating the print job, these methods and devices identify “potential” and “final” job parameter settings and associated sources. The final settings and sources are used to perform marking and finishing operations, while the potential setting and sources comprise a pre-printing, job preparation history in the database.

    • Methods, devices, and systems process print jobs and identify print job settings originating from sources other than the system's existing set of print queues. These methods, devices, and systems can then identify frequently occurring combinations of such setting values. With these combinations as input, they can create new, additional print queues (that are formed in addition to the existing print queues) that apply these frequently occurring setting values to additional print jobs that are subsequently processed through the additional print queues; or can create attribute subsets which can be presented as menu selections to simplify subsequent creation of print queues, or updating of print queue programming or individual job programming.

    • According to exemplary methods herein, a print job comprising an electronic document and job attributes including an imposition template is received into a marking device having a print engine using a standard color gamut and another colorant. A sheet of the job is analyzed for the standard color gamut and for the other colorant. The layout of images for multiple pages of the electronic document on the sheet is determined and the number of passes of the sheet through the print engine is determined based on image requirements for each page on the sheet. User selectable instructions modify the printing instructions for selected pages on the sheet. The user selectable instructions include parameters associated with the number of passes of the sheet through the print engine and the use of the standard color gamut and the other colorant in the images for printing each of the pages on a substrate.

    • Exemplary methods and devices herein receive the images of a previously printed document (through scanning, raster image processing, etc.), a second document to be printed, and instructions to use print settings of the previously printed document to print the second document. These methods and devices automatically detect page boundaries, detect page orientation, and detect page sequencing within the images of the previously printed document to identify previous layout parameters used to print the previously printed document. With this, these methods and devices automatically prepare a print job ticket for the second document that has job ticket layout parameters that match the previous layout parameters. After this, these methods and devices output (e.g., print or transmit for additional revisions/processing) the second document using the newly created print job ticket to cause the second document to match the previous layout parameters of the previously printed document.

    • A method for validating a splitting operation accesses a document and a catalog tree. The method selects a subset of the total pages in the document. The method splits a section of branches from the catalog tree using a splitter in a user device. Each branch corresponds to a page included in the subset. The method processes the subset using the branches to generate split output pages. The method analyzes each split output page to determine if the file split correctly. In response to a split failure, the method determines if the split failure is related to one of a structure error and a metadata syntax error. In response to a correct split, the method provides the print job to an associated output device in communication with the user device.

    • Disclosed is a processor-implemented method for limiting ink output of marked image data using a target printer. A processor determines a constrained output (CMYK) LUT node data set for outputting the image data using the target printer to thereby mark the image data using a limited amount of ink. The constrained set is determined by re-encoding an encoded emulation output data, i.e., constraining an initial LUT node data set for the target printer based on a second. ICC profile with a smaller gamut. This allows the printer to inherit the smaller gamut. By constraining the initial LUT as disclosed herein, the final, constrained set emulates the smaller gamut in the target printer without suffering from pathological outcomes. The method enables the printer to inherit a natural ink limit methodology for the output colors that is more relatively proportional, and in a single destination profile.

    • A method for outputting a print job includes accessing a file representing a previously created document at a client computer. The method includes accessing a catalog tree residing in the document and including metadata corresponding with a job ticket embedded in the file for rendering the document. The method includes splitting pages in the document into multiple chunks using a splitter located in the client computer. The method includes splitting by the splitter the catalog tree into a set of branches each corresponding with one of the chunks of the finished document. The method includes embedding corresponding branch information into the each chunk. The method includes generating a package of chunks. The method includes streaming the package to a digital front end (DFE) of an output device.
