    • An aggregated physical layer (PHY) data unit for transmission of independent data for a plurality of stations via a communication channel is generated, wherein the aggregated PHY data unit includes i) a plurality of individual PHY data units corresponding to the plurality of stations and ii) information that indicates locations of at least some of the plurality of individual PHY data units within the aggregated PHY data unit. Beamforming is controlled while the aggregated PHY data unit is being transmitted. Transmission in an omnidirectional or quasi-omnidirectional manner is performed while the information that indicates locations of at least some of the plurality of individual PHY data units is transmitting. For each of the individual PHY data units, beamforming to the corresponding station is performed while at least some of the corresponding individual PHY data unit is being transmitted.

A described technique includes monitoring wireless communication channels, including a first channel and a second channel, to produce a monitoring output, determining a first transmission period for the first channel, determining a second transmission period for the second channel, transmitting, based on the first transmission period, a first packet on the first channel to cause one or more wireless communication devices to set a transmission protection period for the first channel and the second channel based on a reception of the first packet, transmitting, based on the second transmission period, a second packet on the second channel, and monitoring, after the end of the first transmission period, for one or more acknowledgements. An end of the second transmission period can be aligned with an end of the first transmission period.

    • A plurality of individual physical layer (PHY) data units having independent data for a plurality of stations are generated. The plurality of individual PHY data units includes a first individual PHY data unit corresponding to a first station, a second individual PHY data unit corresponding to a second station, and a third individual PHY data unit corresponding to a third station. The second individual PHY data unit includes a first midamble of an aggregated PHY data unit, and the third individual PHY data unit includes a second midamble of the aggregated PHY data unit. The aggregated PHY data unit is generated to include the plurality of individual PHY data units, wherein the first midamble includes information that indicates a location within the aggregated PHY data unit of the third individual PHY data unit.

    • Systems and techniques relating to wireless communications are described. A described technique includes identifying devices to receive spatially steered data frames during a transmission opportunity (TXOP), the data frames being included in a multi-user frame; transmitting, during the TXOP, request to send (RTS) information to the identified devices; receiving clear to send (CTS) responses from the identified devices; determining bandwidth configurations for the identified devices based on the CTS responses; selecting a bandwidth configuration for the multi-user frame based on the bandwidth configurations to produce a selected bandwidth configuration that enables the data frames to be spatially steered and transmitted concurrently within the multi-user frame; and transmitting, during the TXOP, the multi-user frame to the identified devices in accordance with the selected bandwidth configuration. The bandwidth configuration can indicate one or more frequency bands that are available during at least a portion of the TXOP.
