    • A communication method for a radio communication system employing an enhanced uplink scheme includes the steps of determining a transmission power control bit for controlling transmission power of a downlink control channel; generating an uplink control signal including the transmission power control bit; and transmitting the uplink control signal to a base station. In the determining step, whether an indicator channel indicating acknowledgement or negative acknowledgement for an uplink data channel is receivable at a quality level better than a predetermined value is evaluated, and the transmission power control bit of the indicator channel is determined based on the evaluation result.

    • A character generation system, in which multiple operations are performed in parallel to achieve higher-speed processing, includes a circuit for converting character contour data into coordinate axis data, a circuit for generating dot data expressive of the contour from the coordinate axis data, a circuit for sorting the coordinate axis data in a prescribed sequence and a circuit for performing image drawing operations in correspondence with the sorted data. At least two of these circuits include sufficient channels to permit the performance of their designated functions in parallel. The invention selects only the starting point and terminating point for its image drawing process out of the coordinates which form the polygon and draws a character on the bit map while generating the coordinates incremented by a predetermined value from the starting point to the terminating point. The invention also relates to a method for image drawing.

    • A cell search control that can save power consumption at a mobile device and perform an appropriate in-service area determination is provided. The mobile device according to the present invention includes: a cell search execution unit (120) for detecting a synchronization channel from a base station to perform cell search; a signal reception determination unit (130) for comparing a measurement X of the signal from the base station with a system information reception threshold A and determining whether or not to receive a system information from the base station; and an in-service area determination unit (170) for comparing the measurement X with a minimum required quality level B contained in the system information and determining whether or not to enter into an in-service area state with the base station. Depending on the result of the in-service area determination unit, the reception threshold A or a waiting time for the cell search may be adjusted, or the base station may be excluded from the cell search.
