    • An intrauterine contraceptive system may include a contraceptive intrauterine device, a retrieval thread permanently attached to the intrauterine device and an insertion device for inserting the intrauterine device into a uterus. The system may also include a release thread releasably coupled with the intrauterine device. The intrauterine device may be deployable out of a distal end of the insertion device and may be configured to change from a delivery configuration when housed in the insertion device to a deployed configuration when deployed in a uterus. The retrieval thread and the optional release thread may be at least partially housed within the insertion device during insertion of the intrauterine device into the uterus. The release thread may extend from the intrauterine device through the insertion device to an attachment point at or near a proximal end of the insertion device.

    • In a sterilization method a plethora of magnetizable metal particles are deposited into a uterus of a living female organism. Subsequently, a magnet is placed near an external skin surface of the female organism near the uterus to thereby cause at least some of the metal particles to embed in a myometrium or endometrium of the uterus. The metal particles may be magnetized prior to deposition in the uterus. The particles are advantageously formed to have a sharp end which easily penetrates into the uterine lining. Each particle is magnetized so that the sharp end has a predetermined magnetic pole, whereby a magnet with the opposite pole placed against the organism results in an embedding of the sharp end in the uterine lining. In addition, microwave radiation is optionally transmitted into the female organism in a region about the uterus after the embedding of the metal particles in the myometrium or endometrium.

    • A device for fixing a contraceptive device to the wall of the uterus is disclosed. The fixing device consists of a thread (10) of non-biodegradable material, designed to be attached to the contraceptive device, and a retaining member (11) implantable in the tissue of the uterus; this retaining member (11) consists of a permanent element (12) of non-biodegradable material and a temporary element (13) of biodegradable material which temporarily confers on the retaining member (11) a greater resistance to pulling out than that of the permanent element (12) alone. The device according to the invention is to be used during the period immediately following confinement.
