摘要： A scleral prosthesis includes an elongated body having a first free end, a second free end opposite the first free end, a central portion extending between and coupling the ends, and a convex top surface extending lengthwise along at least part of the central portion. A maximum width of the body at each end is wider than a maximum width of the body along the central portion. The scleral prosthesis also includes an insert having a convex top surface extending lengthwise along at least part of the insert. The body includes multiple portions that form the first end and part of the central portion. The portions are separated lengthwise along part of a total length of the body by empty space, which tapers and then expands in width. The insert has a shape complementary to the empty space such that the insert tapers and then expands in width.

摘要： Example eye treatments determine an area at a surface of a cornea for delivery of a cross-linking agent. The example treatments disrupt tissue at the area at the surface of the cornea up to a depth corresponding to apical layers of superficial squamous cells of the cornea, e.g., no greater than approximately 10 μm to approximately 15 μm. The example treatments apply a cross-linking agent to the area at the surface of the cornea. The cross-linking agent is transmitted through the disrupted area at a greater rate relative to non disrupted areas of the cornea. The example treatments deliver photoactivating light to the cornea. The photoactivating light activates the cross-linking agent to generate cross-linking activity in the cornea.

摘要： A method is provided for implanting, in an eye of a subject, an implantable retinal stimulator having (i) an electrode array including electrodes; (ii) a plurality of photosensors; and (iii) driving circuitry, configured to drive the electrodes to apply currents to a retina of the eye. A surface of the retina is contacted with a tissue-contact surface of an anchoring-element-receiving portion of a frame. Subsequently, the frame is anchored to the retina by penetrating scleral tissue of the subject by advancing an anchoring element through an opening defined by the anchoring-element-receiving portion of the frame and into the scleral tissue such that the anchoring element secures the frame to the retina. Subsequently, using the frame, the implantable retinal stimulator is positioned in an epi-retinal position such that the electrode array penetrates the retina. Other embodiments are also described.

摘要： An implantable medical device is described. The implantable medical device includes an anti-condensation filler that is highly permeable to a predetermined class of small molecules, such as oxygen. The implantable medical device includes a small molecule discharge bag that is permeable to the small molecule, and a cannula that connects an interior of the small discharge bag to the anti-condensation filler. In operation, small molecules are collected and transported through the anti-condensation filler to the cannula for diffusion through the small molecule discharge bag. Even when this device is implanted in a high humidity and temperature gradient environment, the anti-condensation filler prevents condensation, such as water condensation.

A method comprises obtaining an electromagnetically-measured value related to the axial thickness of the lens, obtaining an ultrasound-measured value related to the axial thickness of the lens, calculating a relationship value based upon the electromagnetically-measured value and the ultrasound-measured value, and determining a mechanical property value based upon the calculated relationship value. The mechanical property may relate to lens hardness, rigidity, or density, or the amount of energy for a phacoemulsification procedure. A system may comprise an optical interferometer for measuring data to obtain the electromagnetically-measured value and an ultrasound biometer for measuring data to obtain the ultrasound-measured value.

A viscoelastic material support assembly, which includes a multiple viscoelastic material container retention supporting structure and an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the retention supporting structure relative to the actuator into an injection capable setting, operates to supply a desired amount of viscoelastic material to the eye chamber. The system includes inputs, automated corrections, and visual interaction. Also provided are methods for using the system.

Some devices include a resistance component for controllably deploying an injection needle through the eye wall.
