    • A die apparatus permits the formation of an internal recess in a molded part. The die apparatus includes first and second mold members which are movable between an open and closed position. A core pin assembly includes a first core pin element and a second core pin element supported between the movable mold members for relative movement therewith. A resiliently deformable element is positioned between the first and second core pin elements. The resiliently deformable element is deformably expandable to form an external projection upon relative movement of the mold members to a closed position, and is elastically returnable upon the relative movement of the mold members to an open position.

    • In a mold comprising separable mold parts, one of the mold parts is formed with an elongated first slot opening into the mold cavity and a similarly elongated second slot in the bottom of the first slot and of narrower width than the first slot. A substantially hard non-deformable stiffening member is removably held in the second slot with a free edge projecting into the mold cavity, and a deformable profile strip of U-shaped cross-section is supported on this member with its closed maximum width portion extending across the free edge of said member within the mold cavity and with its legs received in the first slot on opposite sides of said member. When an article is then formed in the mold cavity and stripped from the mold, it withdraws both profile strip and the stiffening member from the respective slots, whereupon removal of the stiffening member from the deformable profile strip allows substantial deformability of the profile strip into the space formerly occupied by the stiffening member so that the profile strip may then be withdrawn through the narrow open side of the undercut slot formed by it in the article.

    • An undercut mold insert apparatus is disclosed for forming an undercut on an inner surface of a molded part. The apparatus provides, in an exemplary embodiment, a disk substantially shaped to approximate the dimensions of the object that is to be subsequently positioned within the undercut, the disk itself comprising an inner portion and a substantially circumferentially integral perimeter portion. The perimeter portion is configured for forming the undercut. The inner portion is configured for at least partially radially collapsing when appropriate force is applied thereto. As such, during the molding process, in which the apparatus is appropriately positioned within and subsequently forms the undercut of the molded part, upon cooling of the molded part, the inner portion is able to at least partially radially collapse, allowing substantially the entire perimeter portion to be disengaged from within the undercut before the apparatus is removed therefrom.

    • A method of injection molding includes the steps of providing a source of pressurized flowable material, a source of pressurized fluid, and a mold assembly actuatable from an open position to a closed position. The mold assembly includes first and second matable mold portions that define a substantially sealed cavity, an inflatable core member positioned within the substantially sealed cavity and secured to the first mold portion, a pressurized fluid path from the source of pressurized fluid through the first mold portion to the inflatable core member, and a flowable material path from the source of pressurized flowable material into the cavity. The pressurized fluid is introduced into the inflatable core member at a first pressure to provide an inflated core member that defines a core boundary and the pressurized flowable material is injected into a space defined by the cavity and the core boundary at a pressure less than the first pressure. After the flowable material transitions to a solid state, the pressurized fluid is removed from the inflated core member, the mold is opened, and the solid article is removed from the mold assembly.

    • The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for reinforcing an object or article essentially comprising a hot-shaped shell, and more particularly to reinforcing a hot-shaped thermoplastic resin sheet with a resin/glass fibre laminate.According to the invention there is provided a method for reinforcing an article or object which essentially comprises a hot-shaped shell, comprising supporting a surface of the shell on an elastically deformable pad intimately matable therewith, placing a mould part having a working surface of shape complementary to the other surface of the shell so that a free space is formed between the mould part and the shell, injecting a reinforcing resin into the free space and then demoulding the thus-reinforced shell.According to the invention there is also provided an apparatus for carrying out the method, comprising an elastically deformable pad adapted to support (and intimately matable with) a surface of a hot-shaped shell, a mould part complementary to the shape of the other surface of the shell, and means for injecting resin under pressure into the free space formed between the mould part and the shell when in assembled position.
