    • A sheet conveying device that makes it possible to perform printing at high speed with high accuracy by easily correcting skew of a sheet, such as an index tab sheet, without requiring troublesome operations. Sheet detection sensors for detecting a sheet and skew correction rollers for conveying the sheet are disposed in a direction crosswise to a conveying direction of the sheet. A skew correction drive controller measures a leading edge detection time between respective detections of a leading edge of the sheet by the sensors, and controls the conveying speeds of the skew correction rollers independently of each other such that a skew represented by the leading edge detection time is corrected. If the leading edge detection time is not smaller than a predetermined threshold value, the skew correction drive controller reduces a skew correction amount for correcting the skew by a predetermined amount.

    • A sheet reversing and discharging device of the present invention conveys each of a tab sheet and an ordinary sheet in a particular manner. Before a tab sheet enters a reversal tray, a drive roller is driven in the reverse direction while a driven roller is lowered into contact with the drive roller beforehand. The drive roller and driven roller pull in the tab sheet in the direction of conveyance until the tab of the tab sheet moves away from the tip of a path selector. The drive roller and driven roller surely convey the tab sheet to the reversal tray after the tab has moved away from the above tip. Whether or not the tab has moved away from the tip is determined on the basis of a period of time elapsed since a sheet sensor adjoining the inlet of the device has sensed the trailing edge of the tab sheet.

    • A paperboard sheet has a longitudinal scoreline defining a narrow flap portion on one side thereof and a body potion on the other side. The sheet is packaged flat together with a set of tabbed dividers thereby protecting the dividers. With the sheet and dividers removed from the packaging, the flap portion is folded up ninety degrees on the scoreline to define a guide tray. The guide tray is inserted into a printer feed tray and the set of tabbed dividers is placed on the body portion with the tabs thereof abutting the upturned flap portion, and the feed tray guides adjusted. The flap guides the dividers as they are fed into the printer, preventing skewing thereof. Guide tray instructions are conveniently printed on the paperboard sheet. The guide tray can be used for guiding sheets, other than tabbed dividers, which have irregular longitudinal edges.
