摘要： A method for protecting a substrate from lightning strikes is provided including providing a lightning strike protectant composition to the substrate. The lightning strike protectant composition comprises a reactive organic compound and a conductive filler that, during the cure of the organic compound, is capable of self-assembling into a heterogeneous structure comprised of a continuous, three-dimensional network of metal situated among (continuous or semi-continuous) polymer rich domains. The resulting composition has exceptionally high thermal and electrical conductivity.

摘要： A mixture comprising epoxidized liquid rubbers, amine hardeners and sulfur applied to a metal and cured produces a coating that is highly durable and provides strong anticorrosive protection to the metal. The amine hardeners serve to activate and dissolve the sulfur, speed up the curing time, and also bond to the rubbers to create a continuous molecular matrix. The activated sulfur also links the rubber molecules together, as well as anchoring the polymer matrix to the metal substrate via chemical bonds. In a preferred embodiment, the formulation also includes two types of accelerators which act synergistically to further reduce the curing time to less than one hour. The addition of micronized aluminum oxides provides increased uniformity of heating during curing and results in a more uniform coating. The addition of calcium oxide together with the presence of amines and aluminum oxide provides a complete absorption of acidic gases produced during curing. The addition of high molecular butadiene nitrile rubber increases the coatings impact resistance, low-temperature flexibility, and adhesion.

As a specific embodiment, a solid fuel rocket motor is disclosed comprising a solid fuel body in a filament wound fiber-resin composite casing formed by filament winding of the solid fuel body with resin-impregnated filament or rovings thereof.

摘要： A powder coating composition comprises a component (A) containing carboxylic acid or anhydride functionality and a component (B) containing hydroxy functionality. The components (A) and (B) are both solids at temperatures up to 50.degree. C. and at least one of them is a synthetic resin having a glass transition temperature in the range 0.degree. to 120.degree. C. The carboxylic acid or anhydride-functional component (A) is a compound or polymer containing at least two cyclic carboxylic anhydride groups per molecule or is a compound containing a moiety of the formula: ##STR1## where X is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, or a cyclic anhydride thereof. The hydroxy-functional component (B) contains at least two hydroxy groups per molecule and contains at least one amine group in its molecule to catalyze the reaction of the carboxylic acid or anhydride groups of component (A) with the hydroxy groups of component (B). The composition is prepared by mixing the ingredients, extruding them at a temperature above the glass transition temperature of at least one of the components but below the fusion temperature, and comminuting the extrudate. The composition is applied to substrates and heated to cause fusion and reaction of the ingredients to cure the coating layer formed.
