The latex comprises discrete polymer particles having both pendent oxazoline and coreactive groups or a blend of discrete polymer particles one portion of which has pendent oxazoline groups and the other portion of which has pendent coreactive groups. The oxazoline group is preferably 2-isopropenyl-2-oxazoline and the coreactive group is a carboxyl, sulfonic acid, anhydride, phenolic, hydroxyl, amide or amine group.

[Also in Division C3] A laminate comprises at least two laminµ adhered together by a water-based adhesive which is applied in the form of a synthetic latex dispersion comprising (1) an interpolymer of (a) a monomer containing at least one carboxylic acid group and (b) one or more monomers or polymers copolymerizable therewith; and (2) a water-soluble polymeric thickener (see Division C3). One lamina may be a metallic foil and the other cellulosic material, e.g. paper. In examples the following adhesives are applied to aluminium foil which is then laminated with paper (a) an aqueous dispersion of carboxylated (acrylic acid) styrenebutadiene interpolymer, ammonium hydroxide, cross-linked polyacrylic acid; (b) as (a) together with ammonium fluoride; (c) as (a) but using an acrylic interpolymer, ester/acid, all three compositions containing also an oilsoluble epoxy resin urea-formaldehyde resin or melamine formaldehyde resin.

摘要： 2 - Hydroxy - 4 - acyloxyacetophenone is made by reacting in aqueous medium acrylyl chloride and 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone in the presence of NaOH (Example 7). Similarly, 2 - hydroxy - 41 - acryloxy (and -methacryloxy)-benzophenone, 2 - hydroxy - 4 - acryloxy - benzophenone, and 2 - hydroxy - 4 - methacryloxy-5-t-butylbenzophenone are made by reacting acrylyl or methacrylyl chloride with 2,41-dihydroxy or 2,4-dihydroxy benzophenone or 2,4 - dihydroxy - 5 - t - butyl benzophenone (Examples 7, 7, 2 and 7). 2-Hydroxy-4-methacryloxy benzophenone and 2-hydroxy-4-methacryloxy - 21,41 - dichlorobenzophenone are made by reacting methacrylyl chloride with the respective 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenones in anhydrous pyridine (Examples 1 and 3). 2,4-dihydroxy - 21,41 - dichlorobenzophenone is made by reacting resorcinol dimethyl ether with 2,4-dichlorobenzoyl chloride in solution using aluminium chloride as catalyst (Example 3). Specifications 845,634, 853,886 and 936,398 are referred to.ALSO:A composition comprises a blend of a polymer of one or more unsaturated compounds having the formula:- wherein R5 is H, halogen or a C1- 4 alkyl group, R6 is H, halogen, C1- 4 alkyl, phenyl, acetoxy, acetyl, cyano, or a -COOR7 group where R7 is an alkyl or aryl group with 0.5 to 20% by weight of a homopolymer of an unsaturated compound of the formula:- or wherein R1 is hydrogen, or an alkyl group having 1-3 carbon atoms, and R2, R3 and R4 are each H, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy groups. The compositions are formed into articles such as sheets and laminated structures (see Division B5). Many polymers of each variety are exemplified. Specifications 845,634, 853,886 and 936,398 are referred to.

摘要： Normally tacky, pressure sensitive adhesive compositions comprise one or more polymers having a T.sub.g of about 0.degree. C. or less containing at least about 40 weight percent polymerized, olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid ester monomers and pendant functional groups attached to a polymer backbone and having the formula: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is a divalent organic radical at least 3 atoms in length, and X is organoacyl or cyano. Such polymers have markedly improved cohesive strength (shear holding value) with little or no detriment to adhesive tack or adhesion (peel resistnace), and these improvements are realized without the necessity of incorporating cross-linking monomers such as N-methylolamides or other cross-linking agents. Pressure sensitive adhesive, water-based emulsions containing such polymers and adhesive articles having at least a portion of one surface thereof coated with such adhesives are also provided.

摘要： There are disclosed normally tacky, pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions comprising one or more normally tacky polymers having a T.sub.g of about 0.degree. C. or less and containing pendant functional groups attached to the backbone and having the formula: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is a divalent organic radical at least 3 atoms in length, and X is organoacyl or cyano, the polymers preferably also being normally tacky when cured. Such polymers have markedly improved cohesive strength (shear holding value) with little or no detriment to adhesive tack or adhesion (peel resistance), and these improvements are realized without the necessity of incorporating cross-linking monomers such as N-methylolamides or other cross-linking agents. Pressure-sensitive adhesive, water-based emulsions containing such polymers and pressure-sensitive adhesive articles comprising a substrate having at least a portion of one surface thereof coated with the adhesive compositions are also disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the adhesive compositions further include a polyacid component for further improving cohesive strength, particularly at acidic pH.

摘要： Polymers are made by polymerization of an ionic monomer such as methacrylic acid or dialkylaminoalkyl (meth)-acrylate or -acrylamide and/or a substantially non-ionic monomer, optionally a cross linking agent, and an allyl ether of the formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CR'CH.sub.2 OA.sub.m B.sub.n A.sub.p R where R' is hydrogen or methyl, A is propyleneoxy or butyleneoxy, B is ethyleneoxy, n is zero or an integer, m and p are zero or an integer less than n, and R is a hydrophobic group of at least 8 carbon atoms. The polymers are preferably made by oil in water emulsion polymerization. They can be used as thickeners particularly in environments containing surfactant and/or electrolyte, including especially emulsion paints, print pastes, alkaline liquors and acidic liquors.
