    • A valve for metering fluid having a valve assembly which meters the fluid, and a hydraulic coupler assigned to the valve assembly. The coupler has a housing cup having a cup bottom, cup wall and cup opening; a piston is guided inside the housing cup in axially displaceable manner and delimits a fluid-filled coupler gap in the direction of the cup bottom and delimits an annular gap in the direction of the cup wall; and a cap-shaped diaphragm having a cap bottom and cap shell, which covers the annular gap at the cup opening by the cap bottom and overlaps the cup wall of the housing cup by the cap shell, and is fixed in place at the piston and cup wall in fluid-tight manner.

    • A method includes: filling a chamber having a recirculating valve, a piston, a cap valve, an injector valve and an injection orifice with a liquid by closing the injector valve and circulating the liquid from a source through the recirculating valve and the cap valve; then isolating the chamber from the source by closing the recirculating valve and the cap valve then allowing pressure within the chamber to follow a cylinder pressure by mechanically coupling the cylinder pressure into the chamber; and energizing an injector coil with electric current that pulls a solenoid assembly in an upward direction opening the injector valve, further motion of the solenoid assembly drawing the piston upward, wherein liquid in the chamber is compressed by the piston to a higher pressure than the cylinder pressure, which has the effect of injecting an electronically controlled stream of liquid out of the chamber through the injection orifice.

    • An injector includes an actuator arranged in an actuator space, a piston guide having a bore hole, and a piston arranged in the bore hole. The piston has a first end face facing the actuator and delimiting a first space in and/or on the bore hole, and a second end face lying opposite the first space and delimiting an adjoining second space in and/or on the bore hole. The piston is arranged between the first and second spaces, and a gap extends around the circumference of the piston between the piston and the bore hole. The piston includes a first material and the piston guide includes a second material, the first and second materials having different thermal expansion properties such that when the piston guide and/or piston are heated, the gap width of the gap decreases to limit fuel leakage between the first space and second spaces.

    • A piezo injector includes a piezo actuator arranged in an actuator chamber and a valve plunger arranged in a valve plunger bore and having a first end face facing the piezo actuator. The valve plunger is arranged between a first control chamber defined by a valve plunger bore portion delimited by the first end face and a spring chamber formed by a valve plunger bore portion opposite the first control chamber.     • A method of operating a pressure compensated fuel injector includes: filling a fuel chamber with a charge of fuel by closing an injector valve and circulating a fuel from a fuel source through a plurality of recirculating valves and a cap valve; then isolating the fuel chamber and the charge of fuel from the fuel source; then equalizing a pressure within the fuel chamber to a rising pressure outside the fuel chamber by reducing a volume of the isolated fuel chamber; and then activating a solenoid that is coupled to the injector valve, opening the injector valve; and then further reducing the volume of the isolated fuel chamber to apply an over pressure within the chamber, pumping fuel from the fuel chamber through the injection orifice.
