    • A pony rod comprises an outer sleeve and a pony rod cap which may be threaded into a threaded shank portion. The pony rod cap may have an outside configuration comprising one or more flat sides. The pony rods may comprise an integral part of crossheads such that pony rod shanks are fixed to the respective crossheads. The crossheads may comprise one or more wear bridges cooperatively coupled with one or more crosshead extension members. A connecting rod is adapted to receive a wear plate such that the wear plate is removably coupled to the connecting rod. A reciprocating pump comprises a multi-piece pony rod assembly. A method of repairing a pump is provided, in which a modified pony rod comprising an outer sleeve is provided and a modified crosshead comprising one or more wear bridges is provided.

    • A pump assembly (10) is disclosed which incorporates a double acting power end (12) to operate opposed single or double acting pumps (84, 102). First and second crossheads (30, 64) are reciprocated along the pumping axis (38) by rotation of the crankshaft (20) within the power end (12). A single acting pump is connected to each of the crossheads so that the pumping stroke of the pumps occur in opposite directions as the crossheads are reciprocated. This provides a constant loading of the power end in compression to most efficiently use the power end while realizing the advantages of using single acting pumps. The crossheads are guided for motion along the pumping axis by adjustable cradles (40, 46, 70, 72) which are initially secured to the frame of the pump assembly for limited motion and the crossheads reciprocated through their range of motion to align the cradles with the crossheads and subsequently rigidly secure the frame in the aligned positions as by fastening assemblies (52).

    • An improved piston assembly for high-power internal combustion engines such as supercharged diesel engines. The piston includes separate head and skirt portions. An elongated bearing member having an external journal surface is formed across the bottom of the piston head. A wrist pin, which is attached to or integral with a connecting rod, defines a generally tubular shaped bearing member having an internal bearing surface in which the piston head bearing member is journaled to permit rotational movement between the connecting rod and the piston head. The external journal surface on the piston head is supported by the wrist pin along its entire length to prevent any flexing of the wrist pin when high compressive forces are applied to the piston head. The skirt is connected to the wrist pin by thrust bearings which engage an external journal surface on the wrist pin substantially along its entire length to permit rotational movement between the piston head and the piston skirt.

    • A machine, such as the compressor, having a housing formed in two sections. One section encloses a working unit while the second section encloses a driving unit for operating the working unit. A connector unit in the second section is operably connected by removable bearing means to the working unit and to the driving unit. The connector unit has pivoted bearings thereon that are slidable on mating removable bearings on the housing. A window is provided in the second section, through which window all of the bearing means in the second section may be removed without disturbing the working unit in its section. The pivoted bearings are of the so called Mitchell type but are of an improved construction. The bearing surfaces thereof have one or more transverse grooves therein that are symetrically arranged with respect to a plane passing through the pivot bore and perpendicular to the bearing's face. This construction tends to prevent digging in of the bearing when moving along the mating bearing.
