    • An aircraft landing gear including a wheel rotatable about an axle, a motor, and a bi-directional overrunning clutch, such as a roller or sprag clutch, operable to either connect the wheel with the motor or disconnect the wheel from the motor. The bi-directional clutch includes a ring-shaped overrunning track connected to the wheel, a ring-shaped drive track connected to the motor and concentrically aligned with the overrunning track, and a plurality of movable elements retained between the overrunning track and the drive track. The movable elements are movable between: a driven configuration in which they prevent relative rotation between the drive track and the overrunning track to thereby permit the wheel to be driven by the motor; and an overrunning configuration in which they permit relative rotation between the drive track and the overrunning track to thereby disconnect the wheel from the motor.

    • A tool is provided for driving fasteners that includes a torque limiting mechanism therein. The torque limiting mechanism includes a first frictional engagement member disposed on the drive shaft for the tool that is engaged by one or more second frictional engagement members disposed on one or more sides of the first frictional member. The second frictional engagement members are biased into engagement with the first member by biasing members disposed within the handle that can be adjusted in order to provide more or less of a biasing force to control the frictional engagement of the second member with the first member and thereby control the torque limiting function of the torque limiting mechanism. In addition, a drive shaft is also engaged with a ratcheting mechanism that enables the tool to drive a fastener into a suitable substrate in only a single direction.

    • An overrunning clutch assembly includes a first ring having pockets spaced mutually about an axis, rockers each located in a pocket, springs each urging a rocker to pivot in a respective pocket, and first notches arranged around the axis. A second ring includes second pockets spaced mutually about the axis, second rockers each located in a second pocket such that at least one second rocker is engageable with a notch, second springs each urging a second rocker toward engagement with a notch, and second notches around the axis, at least one rocker being engageable with at least one second notch. A control member moves about the axis alternately to prevent the first rockers from engaging the second notches and to permit the first rockers to engage the second notches.

    • The coupling of driving shaft with a driven shaft is accomplished at high torques and high speeds of rotation using a piezoelectric shack, a passive clutch system, and a hydraulic clutch activation system. The piezoelectric stack is housed in the rotating driving shaft, and extends along the axis of the shaft when it receives an engagement signal. This extension of the piezoelectric stack depresses a disk spring into the hydraulic cavity of the housing of the hydraulic clutch activation system. The pressure thereby generated in the hydraulic fluid compresses a compression ring onto a control disk and translates any rotation of the compression ring into the control disk. A torsion rod in the center axis of the control disk is rotated and, in turn, rotates a plug connected to a sprag clutch. This rotation serves to rotate the sprags into a locking position so that the sprag clutch engages the driving shaft with the driven shaft.
