    • An improved valve plug actuator is provided which is substantially impervious to environmental contamination and which provides greater axial transfer of seating force to an associated valve plug. The actuator uses an indexing race formed in an indexing sleeve to support a thrust bearing on one side of an operating screw collar and an enhanced retaining ring to capture an opposing thrust bearing. Lubrication containment and environmental isolation of the interactive surfaces of the actuator is maintained by o-ring seals carried by the retaining ring and by a lowermost movable component of the actuator which also is rigidly affixed to the associated valve plug.

    • Control and power actuating means for the sequential operation of a valve component, particularly of relatively large valve units, wherein the valve component is required to be moved in going from one operating position to another through a succession of linear and rotational movements in opposite directions, in which one power actuator is selectively energizable to move a positioning member for the valve component in axially reciprocal directions, and another power actuator is selectively energizable to rotate the positioning member in opposite directions, sequential or cyclic operations of the actuators for changing the valve from one operating position to another being interlocked and determined by a sequencing valve which is responsive to movements of the valve positioning member.

    • A three-piece valve consisting of a body unit, an insert unit and a C-shaped spring unit. The body unit has a horizontal first through passage, a downwardly tapered frusto-conical second through passage, an arcuate groove at the top and a camming surface at each end of the groove. The insert unit comprises a frusto-conical plug member having a transverse third through passage and an annular groove at its lower end. The plug member is located in the second passage and forms intimate rotary contact with the surface defining the second passage. The insert unit also comprises a handle which is integral with the plug member and a pin at the upper end of the plug member and projecting into the arcuate groove. The C-shaped spring unit registers with the annular groove and releasably engages a reversely tapered fourth passage formed in the bottom of the body unit and communicating with the second passage. The parts are so configured and arranged that, upon predetermined rotary movement of the plug member relative to the body unit in either direction, the pin engages and slides along a corresponding camming surface causing release of the plug member from the body unit against the action of the spring unit.
