摘要： A liquid heater such as a direct electrical resistance liquid heater having multiple flow channels is provided with a temperature-sensing element in the form of a wire extending across numerous channels, preferably all of the channels, near the downstream ends of the channels. The resistance of the wire represents the average temperature of the liquid passing through all of the channels, and hence the temperature of the mixed liquid exiting from the heater. A bubble suppressing structure is provided in the vicinity of the wire.

Internal side protectors, in addition to establishing the size of the boiler in the front-to-back direction, serve as support rails for a removable boiler module and as a retainer for fire bricks which are further retained by a firebox grate. Front and back protectors for the boiler interior rest upon the grate support members and are maintained in properly spaced relationship through interfitment with the side protectors. A boiler scraping attachment and boiler tube cleaner are disclosed. A positive releasable retainer arrangement for the slide-in, slide-out boiler module is included.

摘要： A multi-fuel boiler is provided in which coal is burned in combination with oil or gas in such manner that the particulate emission from the coal, normally relatively high, is reduced to a level comparable to oil. In one example, coal of a quality that would normally burn with a Bacharach smoke spot test number of 6 can be burned with a test number below 2.This is accomplished by utilization of a horizontal oil or gas flame directed across the flue gas exit of the combustion chamber in opposition to the flow of coil combustion gases to change the normal flow pattern of the combustion gases. This creates turbulence, which provides additional combustion time at combustion temperatures in the presence of excess air. Efficiency in particulate removal increases with increased use of oil or gas, but has been found to reach its most efficient, asymptotic point with no more than about 25% to 30% of oil relative to the total input (on a BTU basis), after which the addition of additional oil or gas does not increase particulate removal. At this point the boiler will have the clean burning characteristics of oil, but will be using 70% to 75% coal.

A pump circulates water through the water heating device and through the hot water holding tank.

The sleeve squeezes the pipe to create a smaller diameter for the purpose of providing a leak-proof connection between the pipe of the heat exchanger, the connection and the inner sleeve.
