    • A system and method for determining a noble metal concentration in a sample that is representative of a noble metal concentration in either a volume of water circulated through a nuclear reactor or a surface of a nuclear reactor component exposed to the volume of water. The system comprises: at least one standard having a predetermined concentration of the noble metal disposed its surface; an electrolyte bath for immersing one of the sample and the standard therein; an auxiliary electrode connectable to one of the sample and the standard; a power source connectable to a reference electrode and one of the standard and the sample; and a current measurement device capable of measuring a current passing between the auxiliary electrode and one of the sample and the standard. The power source is capable of providing a potential across the reference electrode and one of the sample and the standard, The noble metal concentration in the sample is determined relative to the predetermined concentration in the standard by comparing a sample current passing through the sample to a standard current passing through the standard.

    • The indicator terminal for a coulometric measuring device includes a terminal body with a conically shaped inner space that is coaxial with a tubular nozzle situated in the terminal body. The inner space intersects with a contact mouth formed as a cylindrical recess at a base end portion of the terminal body. A measuring edge of the contact mouth is defined at the base end of the terminal body. The tubular nozzle has a terminus at a predetermined distance before the base end of the terminal body near the contact mouth. Centering and supporting means for the tubular nozzle include three ribs that project across the inner space to engage the periphery of the tubular nozzle and extend along the nozzle in helical fashion so as to be nonparallel with the axis of the nozzle. A reinforcement in the terminal body helps prevent distortion of the contact mouth when the terminal is pressed against a metallic surface.

    • A solid electrolytic type hygrometer is described, which operates with high reliability while providing rapid and sensitive response. A gold foil electrode (16) is wrapped about a hollow glass cylinder (18), a sheet (12) of hygroscopic-electrolytic material is wrapped about the foil, and a wire (14) is wound around the outside of the electrolytic sheet. Moisture passing between wire turns can be absorbed by the electrolytic material (12), and then dissociated by current passed by the electrodes (14, 16) through the electrolytic material. The cylinder has a slit (20) extending along its length, to allow resilient expansion to press the sheet of electrolytic material firmly against the electrodes. The wire turns lie against one another to cause rapid dissociation of moisture throughout the electrolytic material. Additional guard wires (42,44, FIG. 2) lie at opposite ends of the electrolytic sheet, and currents pass through them to avoid moisture buildup at the ends of the main wire coil. The electrical current through the sheet or membrane is proportional to the partial pressure of the water-vapor.
