    • The present invention is directed to a beam dump which is configured for not increasing a temperature of a laser with which it may be implemented. The beam dump may include an opaque enclosure which is configured for receiving light (ex.—initial light) from a light source (ex.—a frequency-converted laser), said light being delivered through an aperture of the enclosure via one or more connected optical fibers. The received light may be scattered within the enclosure. However, the beam dump is configured for minimizing the amount of light which is back scattered light into the fiber(s). For instance, the amount of back scattered light may be less than 1/1000 of the initial light. Further, the beam dump may be configured for minimizing photocontamination which may be caused when the light contacts interior surfaces of the enclosure. Still further, the beam dump may be a small size, low cost structure.

    • A package for dissipating heat power and/or optical power from an optical fiber component of a device is provided. The package includes a heat sink packaging receptacle for accommodating the optical fiber component having a cavity for receiving a temperature sensitive portion of the optical fiber component. According to one aspect, the package may include a power-dissipative material for dissipating heat power or optical power, the power-dissipative material extending within the cavity and surrounding the temperature-sensitive portion of the optical fiber component. According to another aspect, the package may include at least one channel extending between the cavity and an end of the heat sink packaging receptacle, the channel being in intimate contact with the cladding of the optical fiber component for dissipating heat power and/or optical power from the optical fiber component.

    • A device and method of blocking customer access to a fiber optic distribution cable. A service blocker is positioned between a fiber distribution cable and a customer drop cable within a fiber optic adapter. The service blocker includes a body which does not permit optical transmission between the fiber distribution cable and the customer drop cable. The service blocker includes a first end configured to be inserted within the fiber optic adapter and a second end configured connect with a fiber optic cable connector. A system for mounting fiber optic cables including a service blocker positioned within a bulkhead mounted adapter between two fiber optic cables.

    • An optical termination element for terminating an optical fiber carrying a signal of first maximum power level comprises a termination fiber which is unable to propagate a fiber fuse when the signal power is below a threshold power level which is greater than the first maximum power level. The termination fiber is designed by selecting values of the core diameter and the higher mode cutoff wavelength. The intention provides a termination component in which a fiber fuse can not be initiated at the maximum power to be provided to the termination.
