摘要： An apparatus includes an all-optical transmission line having, at one wavelength, a pair of relatively orthogonal optical propagating modes whose local group velocities differ along a part of the all-optical transmission line. The all-optical transmission line is formed by a sequence of optically end-connected multi-mode fiber segments. The segments include, at least, 80% of the optical path length of the all-optical transmission line. Each segment is configured such that a differential group delay between the pair varies monotonically there along and changes by, at least, 200 pico-seconds thereon.

摘要： A multimode optical transmission system and method that employs a higher-order-mode (HOM)-filter fiber. The system includes a transmitter has a light source that generates modulated light and that has a spatially non-uniform light emission. The system also has an optical receiver with a photodetector that receives and detects the modulated light. A multimode optical fiber link that includes a multimode optical fiber optically connects the light source and the photodetector. At least one HOM-filter fiber is optically connected to the multimode optical fiber. The HOM-filter fiber is configured to gives rise to an optical loss of 1 dB or less while increasing the modal bandwidth of the system by at least 10% as compared to using only the multimode optical fiber.

摘要： A higher order mode dispersion compensating fiber includes an optical fiber and a first loss layer which is provided within the fiber and which attenuates a lower order mode propagating through the optical fiber while not attenuating a higher order mode which is higher than the lower order mode. A dispersion compensating fiber mode converter for a higher order fiber includes a single mode fiber; a higher order mode dispersion compensating fiber; and a fused and extended portion which has been formed by fusing and extending the single mode fiber and the higher order mode fiber. The fused and extended portion converts between the LP01 mode of the single mode fiber and the LP02 mode of the higher order mode dispersion compensating fiber.

摘要： In an optical transmission path including multimode optical fibers, modal dispersion is reduced so that signal light can be transmitted at high speed and across a broad band, at low-cost and over a long distance. To reduce modal dispersion, when the transmission path is constructed by coupling a plurality of multimode optical fibers, a length ratio for the multimode optical fibers that obtains the maximum band of the optical transmission path is determined, and the multimode optical fibers are coupled according to this length ratio. The multimode optical fibers that are used have specific refractive index profiles as mode dispersion-compensating fibers. The compensated fiber and the mode dispersion-compensating fiber are coupled with specific lengths.
