    • A multiple ply printed product and a method of producing it are described. The method comprises providing a substrate layer having a first surface supporting at least one wireless communication chip and a second surface, reverse to the first surface. A first paper stock having a first surface and a second surface is also provided. A first bonding operation is performed to substantially bond together the first surface of the substrate layer and the second surface of the first paper stock, to sandwich the wireless communication chip between the first paper stock and the substrate layer;providing a second paper stock having a first surface and a second surface. At least one of the first surface of the first paper stock and the second surface of the second paper stock may be printed on. A second bonding operation is performed to bond together the first surface of the second paper stock and the second surface of the substrate layer, to form a multiple ply printed product where the first surface of the substrate layer supports a plurality of wireless communication chips and the multiple ply printed product is a sheet on which is printed a plurality of business cards, each business card corresponding to a respective wireless communication chip.

    • In a method for using and maintaining user data stored on a smart card, a smart card receives a user data request for the user data stored on the smart card. The smart card determines whether the user data request is a data maintenance request or a data use request. A data maintenance request is for modifying user data stored on the smart card. A data use request is for read only access to user data stored on the smart card. The smart card uses a first process to determine whether to allow the user data request when the user data request is determined to be a data maintenance request. The smart card uses a second process, different from the first method, to determine whether to allow the user data request when the user data request is determined to be a data use request.

    • A machine that processes gift cards in an in-line process where the gift cards travel along a generally straight transport path from a card feed mechanism to a delivery end where the cards and carrier combinations are discharged. During the in-line processing, a magnetic stripe, integrated circuit chip or RFID tag on the gift cards can be encoded with account information, a serial number or other information. In addition, the cards are transported to a print mechanism that personalizes the cards with a bar code, account information, serial number or other information. After printing, the cards are transported to a gluing system which applies adhesive to one side of the cards. The cards are then transported to a feeding mechanism that feeds and applies a carrier to one or more cards.
