    • Provided are a drive device and drive method for a vacuum fluorescent display that can suppress brightness variations in display images and improve display quality. A drive device for a vacuum fluorescent display is provided with a positive electrode unit in which a plurality of positive electrodes to which a phosphor is applied are disposed in a matrix shape and a negative electrode filament that discharges electrons toward the positive electrode unit. The device is provided with: a first magnetic field generating means that generates a first magnetic field perpendicular to the direction in which the positive electrode unit and the negative electrode filament face each other and that can periodically switch polarity; and a second magnetic field generating means that generates a second magnetic field that is perpendicular to the direction in which the positive electrode unit and the negative electrode filament face each other and crosses the first magnetic field and that can periodically switch polarity.

    • This is a portable electro-magnetic book (or reusable book frame) device to display digital format files requiring minimal energy. Nothing of this kind is currently available to the public. A user will be able to have single a book like device with almost unlimited source of digital files to display on the device. The effect is achieved by application of electro-magnetic field (electro-magnets) onto permanent magnets, whose ends are black and white accordingly, which form out of themselves viewable symbols (such as letters, punctuation, words, drawings etc.) creating an image of a book page.The realization of this device will make disposable paper books obsolete.

    • The invention provides a display matrix system using display elements of the electromagnetic type. The system differs from others in that the currents applied to the display elements are unidirectional as there are no electrical switching components per element. This reduces the drive circuitry needed for the matrix. Selection of the display elements relies on current pulses of variable width.In accordance with an aspect of the invention each one of a row or column of coils are connected together by N conductors, such that it is only necessary to drive 1/N of the coils in a row or column at a time:In accordance with a further aspect of the invention means are provided which enable variation in the electrical pulse width applied to a display element in response to variation of one of ambient temperature and supply voltage.

    • Large scale information display panels made up of basic picture elements running to hundreds, even up several thousand color elements, are useful for being viewed for advertising, transportation information, traffic control, news, weather, finanical data and other information normally generated by computers. The system has capability in alphanumeric and also for color graphics designs in four colors with use of a basic display element with two intersecting planes rotational about an axis at the intersection of the two planes. A three plane element provides for designs in six colors. The basic two plane display has each face of each of the two plane surfaces coated or impregnated with a different color and a single permanent bar magnet is enclosed in one of the plane forms perpendicular to the axis of rotation. The bar magnet acts as an armature for rotation of the element with current flow through a coil and a holding force with magnetic circuit material resist shifting from a set orientation in a two coil driven configuration. This is with "L" shaped ferrous metal strips providing support for the rotatable display elements and holding a vertical coil and horizontal coil in place for each rotatable display element. Addition of a third coil positioned in element to element dividers for each element and inclusion of a third perpendicular color plane along with two permanent bar magnets at right angles to each other in each element extends the concept to a six color display.

    • This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for addressing an array of pixels in a display. In one aspect, an electromechanical device includes a movable element coupled between a first and second actuator, and a charge distribution circuit arranged to electronically couple the first actuator to the second actuator and capable of equalizing a potential between the first actuator and the second actuator. In certain implementation, a method for addressing an array of pixels in a display, where a given pixel in the array of pixels includes a light modulator coupled between first and second actuator capacitors, includes equalizing a potential between the first actuator capacitor and the second actuator capacitor prior to discharging and re-charging the actuator capacitors. Equalizing a potential may include transferring charge from one actuator capacitor to another actuator capacitor until the voltage across each actuator capacitor is approximately equal.
