    • A percussion instrument includes a drum shell, a batter head maintained under tension by a rim secured to the top of the drum shell, a flexible member supported at the bottom end of the drum shell, a contact microphone retained on a central section of the flexible member, an acoustic transmission structure in contact with the batter head, and a drive foot coupled to a lower end of the acoustic transmission structure. The contact microphone can be coupled to the flexible support member with a first double-sided adhesive tape member. A foam cushion disposed between the drive foot and the contact microphone can be coupled to the drive foot on a top side with a second double-sided adhesive tape member and on the opposite bottom side with a third double-sided adhesive member to reduce unwanted microphonics or feedback, and allow rapid reversion of the signal from the contact microphone.

    • Various embodiments of a detachable electronic drum are described. In one aspect, an electronic drum includes a main support base having a central portion and a periphery surrounding the central portion, a striking unit disposed on the central portion of the main support base, an annular top cover disposed over and around the striking unit such that the striking unit is disposed between the main support base and the annular top cover, and an annular elastic collar coupled to the periphery of the main support base. The annular elastic collar is configured to hook to a drum hoop of a conventional drum when the electronic drum is attached to the conventional drum and disposed over a drumhead of the conventional drum such that no other portion of the electronic drum is in contact with the conventional drum.

    • An electronic percussion instrument may include a percussion member that generates vibrations when percussed, a vibration resonance member, and a vibration damping member. The vibration resonance member may include a hub portion centrally located in the vibration resonance member, a plurality of radial portions extending radially from the hub portion, and a plurality of ring portions. Each of the radial portions may traverse through and connect at least some of the plurality of ring portions. Ring portions of the plurality of ring portions may be concentrically arranged with each ring portion adjacent to one another. The vibration damping member, disposed between and in direct contact with the percussion member and the vibration resonance member, may propagate the vibrations generated by the percussion member to the vibration resonance member.

    • An electronic percussion device includes a drum shell, a drumhead as striking surface, vibration sensors, and a peripheral and a central vibration carrier. The vibration carriers abut against the drumhead to convey vibrations therefrom to the sensor(s). The central vibration carrier is a helicoidal spring. The peripheral vibration carrier is a rigid body of solid material supported by peripheral sensors disposed thereunder. Two electrical leads of each one of the peripheral sensors are correspondingly coupled in parallel to produce only two common output leads. An electronic sound module is configured to sample the sensors and employs software procedures to detect percussion strokes delivered on the drumhead, and to generate sounds accordingly. The software procedures use averaged and aggregated signals to provide accurate detection of position and intensity of a drum stroke. Alternative embodiments of the device use only a peripheral vibration carrier or only a central vibration carrier.

    • A percussion electronic device allows a percussionist to learn, through electronic feedback, the correct playing of the right or left hand. The percussion device could be struck by the percussion player on the right or left side of the pad. Alternatively, the percussion device can connect to a visual detector to detect motions of the user's left and right hands. Computer software may display written music or instructions of what hand to play at what time and the percussion device would input the performance of the percussionist into the computer, designating which inputs were from the right hand/side and which inputs were from the left hand/side. Optionally, foot sensors can be used to detect movement of the left and right feet to assist in teaching of instruments such as a drum set where the feet may control operation of instruments such as a bass drum and hi-hat.
