摘要： A recording device performs recording on a recording medium such as a DVD, and playback compatibility of the recording medium is increased. In circumstances such as when a standard is established after the manufacture of a playback apparatus, there are playback devices that physically cannot read information for decrypting encrypted data from a predetermined area of the recording medium due to the specifications of the playback apparatus, and therefore the playback apparatus cannot use the recording medium. In order for the recording medium to be able to be used in such a playback apparatus, the recording device reads data recorded in the predetermined area of the recording medium, and records the read data in another area that is readable by the playback apparatus.

摘要： A method of renewing encryption applied to a content file in a playback device comprising determining a specified variant of at least one microcode function to be used in playing back the content file, determining if variants are stored in internal memory on the playback device to determine if the specified variant is included in the stored variants, retrieving the specified variant from a variant storage in a memory located in a media device in communication with the playback device, if the specified variant is not included in the stored variants, and using the specified variant to access the content file. A playback device has at least one memory having a variant storage, the variant storage including at least one variant of a microcode function, and a processor configured to execute instructions to determine at least one specified variant, access the variant storage of at least one memory to acquire the specified variant, and use the specified variant to decrypt a content file downloaded to a media device in communication with the playback device.

The secondary recording device associates each primary recording device with a different partition and accepts a hard disk processing request for a partition only from the primary recording device associated with it. The secondary recording device deletes a backup copy of copying-inhibited data after restoring it on the primary recording device. The primary recording device prohibits copying-inhibited data from being restored after moving it to a DVD. The primary recording device and the secondary recording device exchange program components to work with each other.

A system according to an embodiment includes a media center connectable to a mobile secure and protection keyring associated with an identifier and with a media Key block MKB.
