摘要： In one embodiment, a system includes a data processing unit configured to read encoded data from a magnetic tape medium. The data processing unit is also configured to decode a plurality of codeword interleaves (CWIs) from the encoded data, each CWI being a row in a sub data set logically organized into a two-dimensional array. The array includes a predetermined number of rows and columns of predetermined lengths. The data processing unit is also configured to determine an address for a first-written CWI without successfully decoding a corresponding codeword interleave designation (CWID) from the encoded data, each CWID specifying an address for a corresponding CWI. Also, each CWID is calculated as a function of a logical track number and a CWI set number.

摘要： A disk drive is disclosed comprising a head actuated over a disk comprising a plurality of tracks defined by a plurality of servo sectors. An estimated track ID is generated and a plurality of proximate track IDs is generated having values proximate the estimated track ID. A set of Gray codes is generated each corresponding to the estimated track ID and the proximate track IDs, wherein each Gray code in the set of Gray codes comprises N bits, and M bits out of a high order of the N bits comprise the same value. A recorded Gray code is detected in a first servo sector to generate a detected Gray code, and an error in the detected Gray code is corrected by inverting at least one bit in the detected Gray code comprising a value that is different from the value of the corresponding bit in the M bits.

摘要： Data blocks to be stored on a disk-based data storage device (e.g., a hard disk drive, etc.) are coded together to form a plurality of linearly independent network coded blocks. The network coded blocks are then stored on the data storage device. Coded seeking may then be used to retrieve the original data blocks from the data storage device in a time-efficient manner. A read request may be sent to the data storage device requesting an innovative coded packet associated with the original data blocks. In response to the read request, the data storage device may read an innovative coded packet from the disk that is closest to current position of a read element of the device.

Between an adjacent pair of the plurality of extended extents, at least two each of the plurality of the main-view extents and the plurality of the sub-view extents are placed in a continuous, interleaved arrangement.

The PlayList information includes a plurality of pieces of PlayItem information, each of which has an In_time and an Out_time which specify a single piece of picture data in the video stream and a Still_time indicating a period during which the piece of picture data is still-displayed. A still period indicated by the Still_time is a length of time that is longer than or equal to a VBV-delay when reading a subsequent piece of picture data to an Elementary Buffer 5 of a playback apparatus. The VBV-delay is based on the time required for seeking between the separate areas and reading the audio stream.

C is a dynamically adjustable power control function that determines how much power decreases with the selection of a particular command and F1 is a functional calculation of the power consumption value associated with the particular command. In one embodiment commands with low power consumption will be accessed in preference to commands with shorter seek distance.

摘要： An audio/video information recording/reproducing device capable of easily implementing a post-recording function on an optical disk by using even a low-cost disk drive having a comparatively low-speed seek time. When recording a video file, it is recorded on an optical disk continuously for a duration equivalent to more than three times a seek time. When recording dubbing audio, it is recorded continuously only with constant data size at the same time with the reproducing of the recorded video file, thereby enabling concurrent real-time continuous reproducing and recording. Accordingly, concurrent reproductions of a video file and an audio file are ensured when reproducing dubbing audio.

摘要： Electronic steganographic techniques can be used to encode a rights management control signal onto an information signal carried over an insecure communications channel. Steganographic techniques ensure that the digital control information is substantially invisibly and substantially indelibly carried by the information signal. These techniques can provide end-to-end rights management protection of an information signal irrespective of transformations between analog and digital. An electronic appliance can recover the control information and use it for electronic rights management to provide compatibility with a Virtual Distribution Environment. In one example, the system encodes low data rate pointers within high bandwidth time periods of the content signal to improve overall control information read/seek times.
