The method includes receiving, from the head servo subsystem, a head element position feedback signal at the tape roller servo subsystem; and controlling movement of the tape by the tape roller servo subsystem based, at least in part, on the head element position feedback signal.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for implementing a reduced cost HDTV/SDTV video decoder are disclosed. The described joint video decoder is capable of decoding HDTV pictures at approximately the resolution of standard definition television pictures and can be used to decode HDTV and/or SDTV pictures. The described video decoder may be used as part of a picture-in-picture decoder circuit for providing picture-in-picture capability without providing multiple full resolution video decoders. The reduction in decoder circuit complexity is achieved through the use of a plurality of data reduction techniques including the use of a preparser, downsampling, and truncating pixel values.

摘要： Data separating means extracts intra-frame or intra-field encoded blocks from an intra-frame or intra-field encoded, and inter-frame or inter-field encoded digital video signal, and a digital audio signal contained in an input bit stream. Error correction code appending means appends error correction codes to the extracted intra-encoded blocks. Recording means records the data having the error correction code appended, in special replay data recording areas predefined on the magnetic recording tape. During fast replay or slow replay, error correction is achieved even for the replay signal with a low output level and a poor symbol rate.

By this means, even if rewriting is performed in block units and a recorded state results in which the blocks of a plurality of groups are intermixed within a track, the group to which each block belongs can be correctly identified during reproduction.

摘要： New helical recording scanner architectures and transducing methods provide a consistent track pitch for helical tracks despite positional errors in placement of transducing elements (or sets of transducing elements) from their nominal positioning. The new scanners (85) are rotatable scanners having a vertical direction parallel to an axis of rotation of the scanner. Both first and second transducing elements are mounted on the scanner, and a tape drive (30) which comprises the scanner also includes a transport system for transporting magnetic tape (31) proximate the rotatable scanner in a manner so that information is transduced in helical tracks by the transducing elements during revolutions of the scanner. A width of the transducing elements and the nominal positioning of the transducing elements with respect to the vertical direction are selected so that the tracks transduced by the first transducing element and the second transducing element have a desired pitch regardless of an error between the nominal positioning and actual positioning of at least one of the first transducing element and the second transducing element.

摘要： A packet recording/reproducing system is provided which records or reproduces packets on or from tracks formed in time sequence on a magnetic tape. In a recording operation, the packet recording/reproducing system adds to input packets time stamps whose values are synchronous with packet arrival time control clocks produced by the system. The timing with which the packets are recorded on the magnetic tape is controlled by the arrival time control clocks so that a given number of the packets inputted at high data rate are recorded within a one-track area, a two-track area, or a one-track over area defined across at least two of the tracks, thereby minimizing the loss of capacity of the magnetic tape.
