The servo writing head and the AC-erasing head are provided at downstream of the driving magnetic tape relative to the DC-erasing head, and the DC-erasing head, the servo writing head and the AC-erasing head are unified with each other.

    • In a magnetic recording and reproducing device having a 1ch head and a 2ch head, an azimuth recording operation is carried out on an obliquely evaporated magnetic tape. Angles θ1 and θ2 formed by a direction of a head azimuth of the 1ch head and the 2ch head and a longitudinal direction of the magnetic tape are respectively set to angles at which an output difference between a reproducing signal of a track recorded by the 1ch head and a reproducing signal of a track recorded by the 2ch head is located within three decibels. Thus, an output difference between the two magnetic heads is reduced while the loss of electromagnetic conversion is reduced.

    • In a video tape recorder capable of recording information for a long time, first and second rotary heads are angularly spaced by 180.degree. and are arranged without a step between their respective planes of rotation. In a frame recording operation, an odd field of a frame is recorded by the first head in a first track on the tape while the latter is in a stationary condition and an even field of the same frame is stored in a field memory, whereupon, the tape is intermittently driven a distance corresponding to the track pitch and then, while the tape is again in its stationary condition, the stored even field is read from the memory and recorded by the second head in a second track adjacent the first track. In a frame still reproducing operation, with the tape in its stationary condition, the odd field recorded in the first track is reproduced by the first head and stored in the memory, and then the tape is advanced one track pitch and with the tape again in its stationary condition the second head repeatedly reproduces the even field recorded in the second track in interleaved relation with the stored odd field repeatedly read from the memory. In an alternative field still reproducing operation, one of the odd and even fields is repeatedly reproduced by the respective one of the rotary heads during scanning of the respective one of the tracks with the tape in it its stationary condition and is stored in the memory, whereupon, that one field stored in the memory is repeatedly read therefrom during scanning of that one track by the other rotary head, and the field repeatedly read from the memory is interleaved with the same field repeatedly reproduced from the tape.

    • A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus has a rotary magnetic head mechanism having at least a first rotary magnetic head with a magnetic gap set to a azimuth angle less than 90 degrees in a clockwise direction with respect to a width direction of recorded traces and a second rotary magnetic head with a magnetic gap set to a azimuth angle less than 90 degrees in a counterclockwise direction with respect to the width direction. The traces are formed on a magnetic tape moving in a forward direction at a speed in accordance with a rotational locus of the heads moving and obliquely crossing a travel direction of the tape. The first output signals obtained by the first head are selected in the case where a rotational locus surface of the heads changes in a reproduction operation within an angular range less than 180 degrees in a clockwise direction with respect to the traces formed on the tape. On the other hand, the second output signals obtained by the second head are selected in the case where the rotational locus surface of the heads changes in the reproduction operation within an angular range less than 180 degrees in a counterclockwise direction with respect to the direction of the traces formed on the tape. Reproduction is executed in response to the selected first or second output signals while the tape is being moved in the forward direction or a reverse direction at a speed higher than that while recording.
