    • A floodlight radar system includes a transmitter arranged to generate output waveforms at first and second centre frequencies, and at least one transmit antenna configured to illuminate a search volume constantly at the first and second centre frequencies. A sparse array of receive antennas is arranged in a common plane and configured to monitor the search volume constantly. The system includes a receive circuit arranged to extract target position information from return signals received by each antenna, and a signal processor circuit which is arranged to resolve ambiguity in the position information using a known relationship between calculated Doppler spectra, wavelengths and phase differences at the first and second frequencies, to calculate azimuth, elevation, range and velocity of a target identified in the search volume. The system is able to rapidly detect and locate multiple fast moving targets in three dimensions.

    • A dielectric fill disposed in a waveguide is used to form an antenna feed. One attribute of the dielectric fill is to enable a reduction in aperture size that in turn increases the beamwidth. More specifically, an RF signal received or transmitted at the end of the waveguide can have a wider half-power beamwidth angle than otherwise achieved without the dielectric filling the waveguide. A portion of the dielectric fill may protrude beyond the end of the waveguide to match the waveguide to free space. If the waveguide section is cylindrical in cross-section, a transformed section formed of an annular dielectric ring may be used to match the feed to a rectangular waveguide.

    • The present invention relates to antenna feeds (10, 30, 70, 78, 94) for use in linear or circularly polarized systems. In one embodiment of the invention, a cross-type antenna feed (30) comprises a cylindrical metal waveguide housing (12) and a cross-type metal feed body (32) coupled to the front of the waveguide housing (12). The feed body (32) has four peripherally spaced corrugated arm portions (34) arranged in a mutually orthogonal relationship, where the arm portions (34) extend radially outwardly from a longitudinal axis (16) of the feed body (32). Ridges (36) on each arm portion (34) are arranged concentrically around the axis (16) and parallel thereto, with successive ridges spaced from the axis (16) in a tiered arrangement. In another embodiment the antenna feed is a dielectric lens. The antenna feed is used in an antenna system having a reflector antenna in addition or in a low noise block (LNB) receiver.

    • A multi-beam antenna includes a parabolic reflector, a block-down-converter, a support arm and a holding member. The block-down-converter is arranged such that a multi-primary radiator and a housing containing a conversion circuit are integrally molded. The multiprimary radiator is constituted by a plurality of primary radiators having apertures whose central points are arranged linearly. Neighboring two of the primary radiators are integrally joined with each other at a joint part. A polarization angle can be adjusted simply by a function that an angle formed between the block-down-converter and the support arm can be varied about a perpendicular radiation axis by the holding member. A feeding element pair formed on the conversion circuit is constituted by two feeding elements extending orthogonally to each other. Angles formed between the feeding elements and a central line of the joint part are determined on the basis of a center of a longitudinal range of a receiving area.

    • A versatile dual band satellite system includes a main conductive mounting plate member with a central opening of a predetermined size, and a KU band pick-up unit mounted in the plate to face a satellite antenna. A dielectric funnel support is mounted on the side of the mounting plate toward the antenna, and includes a central opening of the same size as that in the mounting plate, for receiving a C-band pick-up unit. The system includes appropriate microwave chokes and microwave impedance-matching structure, to improve the rejection of spurious or off-axis signals, and to maximize signal strength at the input of both the KU band and the C-band units. With the mounting openings in the main mounting member and in the dielectric funnel support being identical, full interchangeability of parts is practical, and an initial installation may include the C-band unit mounted in the mounting plate to face the antenna.
