    • A conforming radar reflector that includes a thin, metallic reflector layer with a plurality of corner reflectors formed or molded. The shape and orientation of the corner reflectors on the reflector layer produce a strong radar return signal and enable the reflector to bend and conform to the shape of a support object or surface. The corner reflectors are recessed cavities with three converging reflecting surfaces oriented 90 degrees apart from each other and attached at their adjoining edges. Adjacent corner reflectors are rotated and offset approximately 60 degrees. When viewed from the front, six adjacent corner reflectors are aligned in radial pattern each with one vertex pointing to a common center. Disposed between the outer perimeter edges on adjacent corner reflectors is flexible intermediate section that acts as a living hinge that enables the reflector layer to be bent along the intermediate section to conform to an outer surface.

    • Structured surface articles such as molds or sheeting are formed on a compound substrate including a machined substrate and a replicated substrate. In one embodiment, the structured surface is a cube corner element on a compound substrate. In another embodiment, the structured surface is a geometric structure that has a plurality of faces, where one face is located on the machined substrate and another face is located on the replicated substrate. In yet another embodiment, at least some of the faces include a compound face with a portion formed on the machined substrate and a portion formed on the replicated substrate. The method of making a structured surface article including a geometric structure having a plurality of faces includes forming an array of geometric structures in a first surface of a machined substrate; passivating selected locations of the first surface of the machined substrate; forming a replicated substrate of the machined substrate to form a compound substrate; forming an array of second geometric structures on a second surface opposite the first surface on the machined substrate; and removing selected portions from the second surface of the machined substrate.

    • An antenna device includes an enclosure defining a receiving compartment and having a back forming a mounting seat for mounting to a fixture and an end forming a connector for connection with a coaxial cable. A reflection case, which is received in the enclosure, includes reflection plates set around the case and has a bottom stamped to form partially cut tabs that are bent upward by an angle of approximately 90 degrees. The diamond-shaped antenna is composed of two quadrilateral antenna boards received in the reflection case and fixed to the bent tabs and has a central portion to which a waveguide is coupled for connection with the connector of the enclosure through a coaxial cable. The enclosure is closed by a cover plate to protect the diamond-shaped antenna from direct exposure to severe weather.

    • A movable support armature for a curved reflector of electromagnetic radiation is defined substantially as a double layer grid space frame. The armature has plural parallel major chord framing members each having an elongate axis and disposed in a frame major surface. The major chord members include a pair of bottom major chord members essentially in a bottom one of the frame major surfaces. Upper major chord members include a central chord member which is located between two outer upper chord members. The outer chord members lie in respective ones of two planes which also include the central upper chord member; the planes intersect at the central chord member at an included angle which is concave away from the frame bottom plane. Node connector structures are disposed at spaced locations along each major chord member. Minor chord framing members are connected between corresponding node structures on the major chord members defining the respective planes to form arrays of major and minor chord members in each plane. Strut framing members are interconnected between node connector structures in different ones of the planes. Bracing framing members are connected between non-adjacent node connector structures in each array.

    • A node connector in a double layer grid-type of space frame preferably is an extrusion which includes an open-ended tubular portion for snugly at least substantially encircling a frame chord member of desired cross-sectional configuration which is disposable in the passage. The node connector has fixed external elements which extend along the connector parallel to the passage. Those elements define facing parallel flat surfaces arranged in at least two pairs of such surfaces. The surfaces of each pair lie equidistantly from a center plane between them. Each center plane is parallel to the passage axis and preferably includes the passage axis. Each pair of facing flat surfaces of the node connector can cooperate closely with opposite flat surfaces at the end of each of other frames framing member placed between the facing surfaces. The node connector can be secured to a chord member in its passage and to ends of other framing members by shear pins which have zero clearances in node connector holes and in holes or passages through the respective framing members. The space frame can be a movable armature for a curved solar reflector, the space frame having a V-shaped major surface.At least some of the framing members can be thin wall tubes modified to have opposing, flat-exterior wall zones along the length of each tube and in which the wall thickness is locally increased and through which shear pin holes are defined.
