    • A laser amplifier system is provided which comprises a resonator with optical resonator elements which determine a course of a resonator radiation field which propagates along an optical axis and at least one laser-active medium (LM). The resonator is designed as a split resonator and has a first resonator section which extends from a first virtual plane of separation and a second resonator section which extends from a second virtual plane of separation. The resonator sections are dimensioned optically such that the resonator radiation field has radiation field states corresponding to the same resonator modes in each of the virtual planes of separation. An amplifying unit optically independent of the resonator is arranged between the first and the second virtual planes of separation. The amplifying unit comprises the at least one laser-active medium and couples the radiation field states in a neutral manner with respect to the resonator modes.

    • A system for producing a laser light pulse is disclosed. The system includes a travelling wave or ring laser incorporating a gain medium with polarizing means for introducing substantially polarized radiation having a first polarization state into the travelling wave laser and output coupling means to substantially output couple radiation having an output polarization state from the travelling wave laser. The system further includes polarization changing means incorporated into the optical path of the travelling wave laser for changing the polarization of radiation having the first polarization state to a seeding polarization state, wherein radiation with the seeding polarization state seeds the gain medium, and radiation intensity modulation means for modulating the intensity of radiation in the travelling wave laser to vary the feedback of radiation into the gain medium, wherein the radiation intensity modulation means also modulates the radiation with respect to the output coupling means.

    • A slab laser amplifier with parasitic oscillation suppression has a plurality of angled pump faces related to one another in order to decrease likelihood of parasitic oscillations, with internal beam incidence angles at total internal reflection that alleviate need for reflective coatings. No polished surfaces of gain material comprising the amplifier are parallel to one another. A beam path within the gain material is such that all incident angles of the beam path upon the two main faces and the common end face are greater than a critical angle required for total internal reflection, thereby alleviating need for reflective coatings. Based on an index of refraction of the gain material, and based on a diameter of the laser beam, dimensions of the gain material are selected to maximize beam overlap in a pumped volume of the gain material.
