    • A single-phase induction motor includes a stator including a main winding with a first coil (P1a), a second coil (P1b), a third coil (P2a) and a fourth coil (P2b). The first coil and the third coil are manufactured from a first conductive material (2), the second coil and the fourth coil are manufactured from a second conductive material (3), with resistivity other than that of the first conductive material. The first coil and the second coil are arranged at one of the stator poles (P1) and the third coil and the fourth coil are arranged at the opposite pole (P2). The first coil and the fourth coil are electrically connected through a series connection, configuring a first branch (R1). The second coil (P1b) and the third coil (P2a) are electrically connected through a connection in series, configuring a second branch (R2).

More specifically, a motor having enhanced starting torque performance and increased normal operation efficiency is disclosed. In the motor in which a rotor is started using induction torque generated as power is supplied to a coil of a stator, the rotor includes a rotor core, conductive bars arranged, along a circumferential direction, in an outer rim region of the rotor core, to generate an induction current, flux barriers formed in the rotor core, to interrupt flow of a magnetic flux, for generation of reluctance torque, and magnets provided in the rotor core, to generate a magnetic flux, for generation of magnetic torque.

    • It is an object to obtain a highly efficient and low-cost single-phase motor and a hermetic compressor employing the motor by producing the motor in a form that allows a proper material layout, with securing a magnetic path of a coreback of a stator iron core. According to the present invention, in a single-phase motor having a stator including a stator iron core formed by laminating a plurality of electromagnetic steel sheets and provided with a slot and single-phase two-pole distributed windings composed of a main winding and an auxiliary winding contained in the slot, and a rotor placed through a gap on an inner circumference of the stator, at least five notches each having a roughly straight lined shape are provided on an outer circumference of the stator iron core, so that a quadrangle is formed by straight lines including four notches out of the at least five notches.
