    • Some embodiments are directed to an AC/DC converter comprising a first AC terminal for connection to a first AC circuit terminal, a neutral line terminal for connection to a neutral AC circuit terminal, a common node, a first AC side active bridge coupled between the first AC terminal and the common node, and a neutral voltage lift capacitor coupled between the neutral line terminal and the common node. The converter comprises first and second DC terminals, and a capacitor between the first and second terminals. A DC-side active bridge is coupled between the first and second terminals. An inductor is coupled between a switchable nodes of the first AC side active bridge and the DC side active bridge. A controller is arranged to control the first AC side active bridge and the DC-side active bridge so to alternate voltage across the first AC terminal and the neutral line terminal.

    • A switch-mode power supply control apparatus includes a PWM controller for outputting a driving signal and a short-circuit protection module coupled to a detection terminal. The detection terminal receives a zero-crossing detection voltage. If the time that the detection voltage input to the detection terminal is lower than a first reference voltage exceeds a predetermined time period, the short-circuit protection module determines that a short-circuit abnormal situation occurs, the short-circuit protection module outputs a short-circuit signal to the PWM controller, and the driving signal output by the PWM controller becomes a turn-off signal. If the short-circuit protection module does not detect the short-circuit abnormal situation, the PWM controller operates normally. A flyback switch-mode power supply includes the switch-mode power supply control apparatus. The flyback switch-mode power supply has a low power consumption when a short-circuit protection is taking place.

    • A switched mode power supply (400), comprising a transformer (410) having a primary winding (410-1), a transformer core (410-3) configured to store energy transferred thereto from the primary winding (410-1) during operation, and a secondary winding (410-2) having a first terminal (T1) and a second terminal (T2). The switched mode power supply also has a primary side circuit (Q1, Q2, C1) arranged to generate voltage pulses and thereby to drive the primary winding (410-1) of the transformer (410), and a secondary side circuit comprising a rectification circuit connected to the secondary winding (410-2) at the first and second terminals (T1, T2). The rectification circuit is arranged such that during a forward phase of operation of the switched mode power supply, in which the primary winding (410-1) is driven by the primary side circuit to magnetise, and store energy in, the transformer core (410-3), a current induced to flow in the secondary winding (410-2) from the second terminal (T2) to the first terminal (T1) is output by the rectification circuit. The rectification circuit is further arranged such that during a fly-back phase of operation of the switched mode power supply, in which the magnetisation of the transformer core (410-3) is reset, a current induced to flow in the secondary winding from the first terminal (T1) to the second terminal (T2) of the secondary winding (410-2) is output by the rectification circuit so that energy stored in the transformer (410) during the forward phase of operation is output by the rectification circuit.

    • An embodiment apparatus comprises a first two-piecewise linear approximation generator and a second two-piecewise linear approximation generator coupled to an output of the first two-piece wise linear approximation generator. The second two-piecewise linear approximation generator generates a dead time inversely proportional to the output of the first two-piece wise linear approximation generator. A gate drive generator is configured to generate a primary switch drive signal and an auxiliary switch drive signal complementary to the primary switch drive signal. In addition, the dead time between the primary switch drive signal and the auxiliary switch drive signal is adjustable when the power converter operates in a light load condition.
