    • This invention is a multi-port power converter where all ports are coupled through different windings of a high frequency transformer. Two or more, and typically all, ports have synchronized switching elements to allow the use of a high frequency transformer. This concept and type of converter is known. This invention mitigates a number of limitations in the present art and adds new capabilities that will allow applications to be served that would otherwise not have been practical. A novel circuit topology for a four-quadrant AC port is disclosed. A novel circuit topology for a unidirectional DC port with voltage boost capabilities is disclosed. A novel circuit topology for a unidirectional DC port with voltage buck capabilities is disclosed. A novel circuit for a high efficiency, high frequency, bi-directional, AC semiconductor switch is also disclosed.

    • The present invention provides a power converter and a method for converting power. The power converter comprises an inductor, a transformer, first and second switches, a diode, and a full bridge. The inductor comprises a first winding, a second winding, and a third winding, and is coupled to an input voltage. The transformer has a first primary winding coupled to the first winding of the inductor, a second primary winding coupled to the second winding of the inductor, and a third primary winding coupled to the third winding of the inductor. The first switch is coupled to the first primary winding of the transformer, and the second switch is coupled to the second primary winding of the transformer. The diode is coupled to the third primary winding of the transformer. The full bridge is coupled to a secondary winding of the transformer, and the output voltage emanates therefrom.

    • It is disclosed about a LCD backlight inverter for controlling the overvoltage with a stable output in respect to the fluctuation of an input voltage and preventing an effect to a feedback controlling block in opening a lamp used as a backlight. An overvoltage protection circuit of the LCD backlight inverter comprises a first comparing block for comparing the dimension of a feedback signal with the dimension of a first reference voltage, wherein the feedback signal detects the dimension of the voltage according to on/off status of the backlight lamp in the rear end; a second comparing block for comparing the dimension of the voltage divided in the overvoltage protection circuit with the dimension of a second reference voltage; and a switching controlling block for receiving output signals from the first and second comparing blocks and controlling on/off status of the buck switch according to corresponding comparison signals. The output voltage can be constantly controlled at any time according to the change of the input voltage by using means for controlling the overvoltage in opening the lamp, and also an effect about an abnormal noise of the feedback signal can be minimized in the normally operating status.
