    • A loudness control circuit for an audio device used in a reproduction circuit for reproducing a music signal recorded on a recording medium comprises one or plural level detection circuits for detecting levels of signal components of low and high frequency regions of a reproduced signal and control circuits for controlling the levels of the signal components of low and high frequency regions of the reproduced signal in response to outputs of the level detection circuits. The level control is made in accordance with a sound-pressure level for each frequency region of a reproduced signal so that an optimum compensation of the level in response to the sound-pressure level becomes possible.

    • A tone control circuit including an amplifier having a continuously adjustable frequency response control for varying the effect of low and high frequency filters upon the amplifier, and incorporating a novel distortion and transient suppression circuit is disclosed. A programmable variable resistance is coupled between an input and an output of said amplifier to attenuate circuit low frequency response while initially varying resistor value in response to a programming distortion/transient control signal. Thereafter, overall amplifier gain is further varied in response to the programming distortion/transient control signal by further adjusting the variable resistor value. Various embodiments of the invention provide both continuous and discrete control of tone and volume responsive to both excessive low frequency signal and transients. The present invention is implemented in both discrete and monolithic embodiments, which include both linear and CMOS technologies.

    • A bandpass filter circuit includes first and second resistors connected in series between input and output terminals thereof, an amplifier having a gain of three and its output connected to the output terminal, and an RC circuit network connected between the connection point of the first and second resistors and the input of the amplifier and having bandpass characteristics. The RC circuit network comprises a series combination of a third resistor and a first capacitor connected between the connection point of the first and second resistors and the input of the amplifier, and a parallel combination of a fourth resistor and a second capacitor connected between the input of the amplifier and a common terminal of the filter circuit. The third and fourth resistors have an equal resistance value and the first and second capacitors have an equal capacitance value. As one of the first and second resistors use may be made of a variable resistor to change the quality factor, and the third and fourth resistors may be variable resistors ganged with each other to change the center frequency of the passband.
