    • A communications device includes a housing, an antenna carried by the housing, an oscillator carried by the housing to generate a reference signal, and an RF receiver carried by the housing, and coupled to the antenna and the oscillator, the RF receiver demodulating a received signal from the antenna based upon the reference signal. The communications device also includes a GPS receiver carried by the housing to generate a calibration signal, a temperature sensor carried by the housing to generate a sensed temperature value, and a processor carried by the housing and coupled to the oscillator, the RF receiver, the GPS receiver, and the temperature sensor. The processor may enter an oscillator calibration mode based upon the sensed temperature value for selectively calibrating the oscillator based upon the calibration signal.

    • Embodiments of the present invention provide a navigation device (10) and method that are operable to locate a radio station utilizing a user's current geographic location. The navigation device (10) generally includes a location determining component (14) operable to determine a current geographic location of the device (10), a memory (16) operable to store data corresponding to radio stations and related geographic locations, a processor (12), and a display (20). The processor (12) is operable to identify at least one radio station utilizing the current geographic location of the device (10) and the display (20) is operable to present an indication of the identified radio station. Such a configuration enables accessible radio stations to be easily located without tedious and potentially dangerous manual scanning of radio frequencies.

    • A local oscillator frequency measurement system for measuring the frequency of a local oscillator of an ESM receiver.     • A channel mapping system has a data source containing data indicative of the geographic range of channels broadcast in at least one selected region and a channel determination module that uses data indicative of a location in conjunction with the data source to determine a preferred channel. The preferred channel may be an FM channel. A transmitter is used with a portable media player to broadcast audio data contained on or received by the portable media player over the preferred channel. The media can be received by a corresponding receiver set to the same preferred channel. Adjustments to the channel settings can be determined repeatedly so that, as a preferred channel changes with location, an automated process or a user facilitated process can be used to change the channel settings on each of the transmitter and the receive. A location identification system such as GPS can be used to identify the location.

    • An apparatus, program product and method in which a set of broadcast channels is automatically selected on a mobile receiver based on the mobile receiver's current location, a database of broadcast sources contained within the mobile receiver, and a predefined set of user preferences. This location based selection of broadcast channels may be implemented by first querying a user for personal preferences. These user preferences, along with a database of broadcast sources and program formats, are then loaded into the mobile receiver. The mobile receiver includes a means for determining the current location of the receiver, as the receiver moves from location to location. After the location of the receiver is determined, the database of broadcast sources and program formats are searched in order to determine broadcast sources that can be received by the receiver in its current location. After the receivable broadcast sources have been identified, one or more groups of broadcast channels are created, based on the set of user preferences. These groups of broadcast channels are then assigned to user selectable functions within the receiver.
