    • An autonomous radio controlling method and a system thereof are disclosed herein, in which the autonomous radio controlling method includes: antenna combinations of an antenna matrix are switched. Signal-to-interference ratios (SIRs) and received signal strength indicator (RSSI) values of the antenna combinations are respectively through a first computing process to generate first computed SIRs and first computed RSSI values. The SIRs are through a second computing process to generate second computed SIRs. A relation between a minimum of the second computed SIRs and a first threshold is determined, and further a relation between a minimum of the first computed SIRs and a first range, or a relation between a minimum of the first computed RSSI value and a second range is determined to control an autonomous radio system to operate in a first mode or a second mode.

    • Described herein are one or more apparatus, that at least partially synchronize with a first radio-frequency signal from a first antenna element, of an array of spatially distributed antenna elements in a multi-antenna array receiver, to determine the position of at least one of a repeated guard interval in the first radio-frequency signal from the first antenna element, the repeat occurring at a particular defined characteristic interval. The apparatus then use the determined position of the at least one guard interval in the first radio-frequency signal to switch to a second radio-frequency signal from a second antenna element, of the array of spatially distributed antenna elements in a multi-antenna receiver, and further determine a relative orientation of the multi-antenna receiver from a transmitter of the radio-frequency signals using characteristics determined for the first and second radio-frequency signals following the at least respective partial synchronizations.

    • A mobile wireless device adapts receive diversity during discontinuous reception based on downlink signal quality, page indicators and page messages. When the downlink signal quality exceeds a pre-determined threshold, the mobile wireless device decodes a page indicator channel through an initial antenna, and otherwise, decodes a paging channel through the initial antenna without decoding the page indicator channel. The mobile wireless device switches to decoding the paging channel through an alternate antenna when a page indicator decodes as an erasure. When a paging message received through a single antenna decodes with an incorrect error checking code, the mobile wireless devices enables receive diversity through multiple antennas for subsequent decoding. The mobile wireless device switches between single antenna reception and multiple antenna reception based on tracking multiple consecutive error checking code failures and successes.

    • Apparatuses may be provided that contain wireless communications circuitry. The wireless communications circuitry may include radio-frequency transceiver circuitry coupled to multiple antennas. Signal strength measurements may be gathered using the antennas and corresponding signal strength difference measurements may be produced to reflect which of the antennas is exhibiting superior performing. Information may be gathered relating to the fading environment of the communications circuitry, such as whether the wireless communications circuitry is transitioning between a fast fading environment and a slow fading environment. For example, the wireless communications circuitry may further include a satellite positioning system receiver or an accelerometer, which may be used in gathering the information. The difference measurements may be filtered and compared to antenna switching criteria such as antenna switching thresholds. An antenna switching threshold may be adjusted in real time based at least in part on the gathered information.
