摘要： Embodiments of the invention provide orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing-Space-time Block Codes (OFDMSTBC) mappings for code rate 1, 2 and 4 codes for 4 Transmit Antennas. To overcome the innate weakness of known codes, a new class of STBC codes is provided which is particularly suited for OFDM applications, although other applications are also contemplated. Codes for STBC mappings in the time direction, the frequency direction and a combined time frequency mapping for multiple antennas are provided. In OFDM applications, these codes exploit the properties of OFDM and FEC codes to substantially maintain the advantages of Alamouti codes. Furthermore, while the detailed examples given herein focus on four antenna applications, they can be easily extended to systems with more than four antennas.

Sub-carriers are classified for spatial diversity transmission or for time diversity transmission based on the result of a comparison between threshold values and at least one of three criteria. The criteria includes a calculation of a smallest eigen value of a frequency channel response matrix and a smallest element of a diagonal of the matrix and a ratio of the largest and smallest eigen values of the matrix.

Each antenna transmits a respective symbol from the M symbols in a respective time slot of the M time slots and the encoder is configured to determine which symbol to be transmitted from each antenna in each time slot.

摘要： Space time coding (STC) may be applied at the transmitter adding redundant information in both space and time dimensions. At the receiver, the received STC signal may be decoded using a spatial multiplexing MIMO decoding, for example, based on either Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) or maximum-likelihood (ML) algorithms. A selective STC decoder may incorporate both the conventional maximum ratio combining (MRC) decoding scheme and a MIMO decoding scheme. One of the STC decoding schemes may be selected, for example, based on estimated channel conditions in order to achieve a trade-off between error rate performance and computational complexity. Components used for a non-selected scheme may be powered down.

摘要： A method for space-time-frequency coding pieces of data includes receiving a stream of a plurality of pieces of data in a multi-antenna transmission system, where the data may comprise a stream of orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) symbols, orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) symbols or the like. The pieces of data are then coded across space, time and frequency dimensions based upon a plurality of space-time-frequency (STF) codes. The pieces of data are coded such that one or more STF codes in the frequency dimension differ from one or more other STF codes in the frequency dimension. In this regard, the frequency dimension can include a plurality of frequency bins such that the pieces of data can be coded in a manner whereby the plurality of STF codes sequentially circulates through sets of at least one frequency bin in the frequency domain.
