    • The present invention concerns a base station (12) having a DECT communication module (13) for wirelessly communicating with one or more registered portable DECT devices 10). The base station also has a virtual assistant module connecting over an IP communication channel (28) to a virtual assistant providing responses to user instructions, and a telephony module connecting to and accessing a remote resource over a telephony communication channel (27). A device manager (15) identifies and stores communication parameters of the DECT devices, and can implement a user instruction communicated from a DECT device via the DECT communication module and can route virtual assistant responses to a user instruction. A broker module (19) establishes a communication link between the DECT devices and the virtual assistant, and between the DECT devices and the telephony communication channel. The broker module includes a transcoder module (17) operating to trans-code communications over the communication link between the DECT devices and the virtual assistant in the event of a disparity in communication parameters to enable communication of user instructions and responses between the virtual assistant and a DECT device.

    • An ultra low energy (ULE) digital enhanced cordless telecommunication (DECT) base station that includes a scheduler that is arranged to dynamically determine a schedule of transmissions of broadcast messages and of paging messages to be received by DECT ULE devices; a dummy bearer generator arranged to generate dummy bearers in response to the schedule; wherein each dummy bearer comprises a multiple usage field and a usage indicative field; wherein the usage indicative field is indicative of a selected usage of the multiple usage field; wherein the selected usage purpose is selected out of at least a conveyance of a broadcast message and a conveyance of a paging message; a configuration module that is arranged to generate location information indicative of a location of at least one bit allocated within at least one dummy bearer for indicating, when flagged, of a presence of a paging message or a broadcast message aimed to at least one of the DECT ULE devices; and a transmitter that is arranged to transmit to the DECT ULE devices the dummy bearers and the location information.

    • Disclosed is a wireless communication system capable of easily reconnecting a mobile information terminal and a base unit when a user returns home and letting the user know missed incoming call information or the like. To this end, when being unable to receive a signal from the base unit, the mobile information terminal enters into a sleep state, and when a predetermined operation is performed, the mobile information terminal searches for the base unit, and when reconnecting to the base unit, the terminal displays information on an item transmitted from the base unit on an operation display section. Thus, even when the user returns home but forgets switching an operation mode, the mobile information terminal searches for the base unit as soon as the predetermined operation is performed, and can obtain necessary information from the base unit at home by a simple operation when the user desires the information.

    • Presence information is provided in a personal communications system comprising an interface unit (21), the interface unit comprising a computer interface connecting the interface unit (21) to a client computer (1); and a first transceiver exchanging radio signals between interface unit (21) and a mobile telephone (22) according to a first wireless communication protocol; and/or a telephone interface connecting interface unit (21) to a desktop telephone (23). The method comprises the steps of providing a presence message indicating whether the mobile telephone (22) or the desktop telephone (23) is involved in a phone call; and transmitting the presence message to the client computer (1) via the computer interface. Thus better and more reliable presence information taking use of mobile or desktop telephones into account can easily be provided.

    • The vehicle crew communication system provides up to sixty wireless headsets that can be used with one base station, a range of 1600 feet from the base station for operation of the headsets, full duplex operation communication over digitally encrypted DECT protocol links from one base station to a plurality of headsets, pairing of each headset to a particular base station, use of wireless technology inside and outside of the vehicle, automatic channel and link selection to transparently avoid interfered-with channels and links, removal of the need to manually select a channel on the headset, and the combination of the noise-cancelling microphone with noise threshold, noise attenuation, and line echo cancellation tuned to intercom parameters. The invention may be used with or without a vehicle.
