摘要： An optical routing device that includes a mounting component which includes a rechargeable battery and a processor that communicates over-the-air with a master communication device or one or more service communication devices via one or more RF supervisory links. The processor receives an instruction via the one or more RF supervisory links to control a movement of the mounting component along with the optical routing component such that an angle or a direction of deflection of one or more laser beams from an optical routing component of the optical routing device is changed. The optical routing component includes one or more laser beam handling regions configured to handle a plurality of laser beams concurrently in which a first laser beam is deflected via a first region for downstream data communication in downstream path and a second laser beam is deflected via a second region for upstream data communication in upstream path.

摘要： Described herein is a calibration system (25) for a wavelength selective switch (1). The switch (1) is adapted for dynamically switching optical beams (5, 7) along respective trajectories between input and output ports disposed in an array (3) using a reconfigurable Liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) spatial light modulator device (17). The calibration system (25) includes a monitor (27) for projecting an optical monitor beam (29) through at least a portion of the switch (1) onto the LCOS (17) and detecting the monitor beam (29) reflected from the LCOS (17). In response, system (25) provides a calibration signal (33) to an active correction unit (35) for applying a correction to one or more of the trajectories while maintaining a constant switching state in the LCOS (17).

摘要： A communication system includes a transparent refractive optical wedge, a steerable mirror, a position feedback device, and a transceiver. The transparent refractive optical wedge has first and second faces angled with respect to each other and receives first and second optical signals through both the first and second faces. The first and second optical signals travel along parallel or common paths through the first face and diverge at a deflection angle with respect to each other through the second face. The steerable mirror is in optical communication with the first face of the optical wedge, the position feedback device, and the transceiver. The position feedback device adjusts a position of the steerable mirror to maintain the alignment of the reflected signal with the position feedback device. The transceiver has an optical transmitter transmitting one of the optical signals and an optical receiver receiving the other optical signal.

摘要： An optical communication terminal is configured to operate in two different complementary modes of full duplex communication. In one mode, the terminal transmits light having a first wavelength and receives light having a second wavelength along a common free space optical path. In the other mode, the terminal transmits light having the second wavelength and receives light having the first wavelength. The terminal includes a steering mirror that directs light to and from a dichroic element that creates different optical paths depending on wavelength, and also includes spatially separated emitters and detectors for the two wavelengths. A first complementary emitter/detector pair is used in one mode, and a second pair is used for the other mode. The system also includes at least two ferrules. Each ferrule operates with a single emitter/detector pair. The ferrules are designed to operate interchangeably with either emitter/detector pair.

摘要： A wavelength selective switch (WSS) may include a front-end unit that includes an input few-mode fiber (FMF) providing an input optical signal including multiple wavelengths. The multiple wavelengths may each have N modes. The front-end unit may include two or more output few-mode fibers (FMFs), and a side that has a 1×N port for each of the input FMF and the two or more output FMFs. Each of the 1×N ports may be single mode in a wavelength dispersion dimension and N-mode in a switching dimension. The WSS may include a switching element to receive the input optical signal from the front-end unit, switch each of the multiple wavelengths of the input optical signal to form one or more output optical signals, and direct each of the one or more output optical signals to a corresponding 1×N port of the front-end unit.

摘要： An optical switch (10) comprising: inputs (12) to receive input optical signals at respective wavelengths and having planar wavefronts; conversion apparatus (14) to convert each input optical signal into a respective optical signal having a respective helical wavefront, each helical wavefront having a different orbital angular momentum, OAM; optical multiplexing apparatus (16) to receive each helical wavefront optical signal from the conversion apparatus and to multiplex the helical wavefront optical signals into an OAM multiplexed optical signal; and optical demultiplexing apparatus (18) comprising a plurality of outputs (20), the optical demultiplexing apparatus arranged to: receive the OAM multiplexed optical signal; demultiplex the OAM multiplexed optical signal into a plurality of wavelength multiplexed optical signals each having a different OAM; reconvert each wavelength multiplexed optical signal from its helical wavefront into a respective planar wavefront; and deliver each planar wavefront wavelength multiplexed optical signal to a respective one of the outputs according to the respective OAM it had before reconversion.

A processing element of the optical data switching circuitry may generate a plurality of optical data signals, and may send the optical data signals to an optical switch of the optical data switching circuitry. The optical switch may switch between transmission directions for transmission of the optical signals to different receiving ports of the fiber optic router. 摘要： The integrated network element offers an efficient fiber-chip coupling of multiple outputs of a polarization sensitive photonic integrated circuit (PIC) using a programmable mirror co-packaged with the PIC. Efficient fiber-chip coupling requires precise and active alignment of all free-space components. These constraints can be reduced by using a programmable mirror in the form of a liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) device. The LCoS can be programmed with patterns that offer highly accurate beam-steering and focusing functionality. Imaging optics may be used at the PIC facet to provide some degree of collimation in the free-space optical path to efficiently illuminate the LCoS. By reprogramming the LCoS switching between two outputs/inputs can be obtained at high speed.

摘要： A wavelength selective switch includes a wavelength dispersive element that divides a beam input from an input port, a beam director that deflects a wavelength component, and a free space optical system that optically couple a input/output unit, the wavelength dispersive element, and the beam director. The free space optical system converts a shape of the beam such that a size extending in a second plane is relatively smaller than a size extending in a first plane, and to have a long axis and a short axis in a third plane. The long axis is inclined with respect to the first direction. The beam director includes a beam directing region in which a plurality of beam directing elements are arranged. The beam directing region deflects the respective wavelength components toward the predetermined output port. The beam directing region is provided to correspond to the shape of the beam.
