    • In an embodiment, a wireless data exchange network includes a wireless device (WD) operating under a wireless network communications protocol, a wireless access point (AP), operatively linked to the WD and a wired network, and operating under the wireless network communications protocol, and a wireless mobile device (WMD) capable of operatively linking with the WD and the AP, and operating under the network communications protocol. In another embodiment, a method for dynamically establishing a wireless data link between the WD and the AP wherein the WMD functions as a bridge there between, where the method may include determining the state of the data exchange link between the WD and the AP, selectively receiving and retransmitting data, by the WMD, from the WD to the AP and from the AP to the WD; and maintaining the wireless network communications protocol of the WMD during reception and retransmission of data between itself and the WD or the AP.

    • An IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture for IP multimedia services is provided with a given user equipment (UE); a gateway support node (GGSN) configured to handle packet transmission to/from the given UE; and a proxy call session control function (P-CSCF) configured to serve as a first contact point of the UE and provide session management services, including establishing a packet data protocol (PDP) context for IMS related signaling, registration, and other procedures for IMS sessions. The P-CSCF is also configured to perform the following: storing identification information from the given UE during registration in memory; receiving a SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) message from the given UE; comparing identity in the SIP message with the identification information stored with a link to a Policy Decision Function (PDF); and using the same PDF for all operations of the given UE, when the identity in the SIP messages matches the identification information stored in memory.

    • A system that incorporates the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving from a wireless device a request for a network connection and facilitating, in response to the request, a communication session between a wireless access node in communication with the wireless device and a packet data network. Control signals are exchanged between a second network device and a packet data network gateway. The second network device includes a mobility anchoring function and operating in an evolved packet core of a long term evolution system. Eligibility of the wireless communication device to participate in a direct tunnel connection is determined, the direct tunnel allowing transfer of user data packets between the wireless device and packet data network to bypass the mobility anchoring function. Establishment of the direct tunnel connection is facilitated to transfer multiple user data packets between the wireless device and the packet data network. Other embodiments are disclosed.
