摘要： A process for making a relatively low molecular weight, mid-range vinylidene content PIB polymer product comprising a liquid phase polymerization process conducted in a loop reactor at a temperature of at least 60° F. using a BF3/methanol catalyst complex and a contact time of no more than 4 minutes. At least about 90% of the PIB molecules present in the product comprise alpha or beta position isomers. The vinylidene (alpha) isomer content of the product may range from 20% to 70% thereof, and the content of tetra-substituted internal double bonds is very low, advantageously no more than about 10%, preferably less than about 5% and ideally less than about 1-2%.

摘要： Vinyl ester resins of the type already having reactive liquid polymers reacted into the backbone of the resins, are cured in the presence of a reactive liquid polymer additive admixed with the prereacted vinyl ester resin. Heating of the system during cure causes the reactive liquid polymer additive to miscibilize with the vinyl ester base resin. The vinyl ester resin modified in the manner described above shows a significant enhancement in toughness as measured by fracture energy over unmodified counterparts or counterparts modified by known methods of adduction or admixing alone.

The method comprises: introducing a liquid including at least a crosslinkable copolymer and an inert solvent into a devolatilizing zone wherein the inert solvent is removed and the nonvolatile material is separated in a molten state; feeding said nonvolatile molten material under pressure into a heated mixing zone comprising a static mixer; simultaneously feeding a stoichiometric quantity (.+-. 30%) of a molten crosslinking agent for said copolymer into said mixing zone under pressure; removing the mixture of nonvolatile molten material and molten crosslinking agent from said mixing zone; cooling said mixture to form a solid material; and purlverizing the solid material to form a powder.
