The bolt and the nut, respectively, engage the end of the steering shaft in order to interlock the hub and the steering shaft. The attachment device furthermore comprises an engaging element cooperating with the bolt and the nut, respectively, and being provided with an engaging configuration for a clamping tool, the engaging configuration being accessible from outside of the hub.

    • To prevent relative turning between elements which are to be in threaded engagement with one another, one of the elements is provided with a recess and the other element with a non-circular through hole. When the two elements have been joined and brought into their intended relative positions, a locking element, having a cross-section conforming to the through hole, is inserted through the through hole and forced into the recess, deforming the material surrounding the recess, thereby locking the two elements against relative turning. The locking element can be a part of a tool used to rotate the element having the through hole when the elements are joined together. After the locking element is forced into the recess, the excess portion of the tool, extending beyond the element having the through hole, can be cut off or otherwise removed.

    • Externally threaded opposite end portions of the bar of a barbell are insertable into the central apertures of cylindrical weights. Locking sleeves having manually retractable inward-projecting locking pins are fittable on the externally threaded bar end portions. With a locking pin in its projected position, the locking sleeve can be rotated like a conventional nut so as to advance toward or away from the weights. With the locking pin held in a retracted position, the locking sleeve can slide longitudinally in either direction along the threaded bar end portion without rotating.

    • The present invention relates to a mounting structure for securely and accurately positioning an object on a rotatable shaft. In the preferred embodiment, the mounting structure is utilized to position a rotary bell on a rotatable shaft of a rotary atomizer coater. More specifically, the mounting structure includes a rotatable shaft member having an axis and adapted to be connected to a rotating drive mechanism. The shaft member is provided with a first tapered mounting position. An object is adapted to be securely mounted on the shaft member for rotation therewith, and is provided with an internal bore having a second tapered mounting portion engageable with the first tapered mounting portion. The first and second tapered mounting portions cooperate to accurately align the object with respect to the shaft member. In accordance with the present invention, one of the first and second tapered mounting portions includes a plurality of axially spaced apart and generally annular grooves defining tapered land surface portions therebetween. The other one of the first and second tapered mounting portions defines a tapered surface engageable with the tapered land surface portions for securely and accurately positioning the object on the shaft member. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the grooves are uniformly spaced apart and have a predetermined width which is substantially equal to the width of each of the tapered land surface portions. Also, one of the first and second tapered mounting portions which includes the grooves is formed of a material such as aluminum, while the other one of the first and second tapered mounting portions is formed of a harder material such as steel.

    • An arrangement for coupling a rotary member such as a pulley of V-belt or flat belt to a rotary shaft. A boss is mounted on the rotary shaft so that the rotary shaft will have its one end protruding from the boss. The protruding end is passed through a center hole in the rotary member. A nut is tightened on the end of the rotary shaft protruding from the center hole to tighten the rotary member and the boss and thus couple them together. A plurality of projections are formed on one of the rotary member and the boss and a plurality of cutouts or holes are provided in the other. The projections are inserted in the cutouts or holes to couple the rotary member and the boss together.
