    • A mixing apparatus includes two compartments which are interconnected by conduits of two different types. The conduit or conduits together of the first type present a lower resistance of flow from one compartment to the other than do the conduit or conduits together of the second type. The conduit or conduits together of the second type present a lower resistance to flow from the other compartment to the one compartment than the conduit or conduits of the first type. Fluid is caused to flow between the compartments through the noted conduits. A method includes providing apparatus as above-described and causing fluid to flow between compartments.

    • Aqueous dispersions are disclosed, having a minimum film formation temperature no greater than about 50° C., that include a multi-stage emulsion polymer made by a process that includes a first polymerization stage, in which a first monomer mixture having a calculated glass transition temperature of at least about 50° C. is polymerized via free radical emulsion polymerization to obtain a first-stage emulsion polymer, and a second polymerization stage, in which a second monomer mixture, having a calculated glass transition temperature from about −30° C. to about 10° C., is polymerized via free radical emulsion polymerization, in the presence of the first-stage emulsion polymer. The dispersions are useful in a variety of coating compositions that exhibit improved block resistance.

    • The invention relates to a method and apparatus (1) for continuously mixing two flows (3, 5)., in particular, a first larger flow (3) and a second smaller flow (5). The mixing operation is carried out in a throttle (6) which is placed in the conduit (2) of the first flow. A bent conduit (4) discharges the second flow in the throttle of the conduit. The conduit (4) of the second flow (5) is terminated with a pipe bend (8) and a mouth (9) with a washer (10) such that the two flows (3,5) face towards one another. Additionally, a gap (11) is provided between the washer 10 and the mouth (9) in order to spread the 2.sup.nd flow uniformly around the mouth (9) of the pipe bend (8) and out into the counter-flowing first flow (3).
