    • A bending machine according to the present invention include: a first fixture member 22 for holding one end portion of a long work 20; a second fixture member 24 for holding the other end portion of the work 20; a rack 30 mounted on the first fixture member 22 so as to extend in longitudinal directions of the first fixture member 22; a roll-shaped bending die 21, mounted on the second fixture member 24, for bending the work along the outer peripheral surface of the second fixture member; a pinion gear 26 which is coaxially connected to the bending die 21 via a shaft 28 and which engages the rack 30; and a connecting member 27 for connecting the first fixture member 22 to the second fixture member 24 via the shaft 28 in a relatively rotatable state so that the pinion gear 26 is movable along the rack 30 while engaging the rack 30.

    • A dual-directional pipe-bending machine bends a pipe in either direction and has a base, a transporting device and a pipe-bending assembly. The base has a bracket. The transporting device is mounted slidably on the bracket. The pipe is mounted on the transporting device. The pipe-bending assembly is mounted on the base and has a transversely moving bracket, a vertically moving bracket, a location-changing assembly, a rotating transmission device, a rotating bracket and two pipe-bending devices. The transversely and vertically moving brackets are mounted on the base. The location-changing assembly moves the transversely moving bracket and the vertically moving bracket. The rotating bracket connects to the vertically moving bracket. The rotating transmission device rotates the rotating bracket. The two pipe-bending devices are mounted on the rotating bracket.

    • A manufacturing tool for finishing a preformed scroll for use in a scroll type fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed. The tool includes a working member having an end plate and a first involute element extending from one end surface of said end plate. The end plate has a plurality of arc shaped holes along the outer side wall of the first involute element. A second involute element is rotatably coupled to the working member and interfits with the first involute element in a disposition to define a radial gap between the first and second involute elements. A plurality of pins project axially from an axial end of the second involute element and penetrate through the arc shaped holes. A rotatable member has a plurality of holes extending in the axial direction. The pins have axial end portions which extend into the holes in the rotatable member to couple the rotatable member to the second involute member and to transmit the rotation of the rotatable member to the second involute element so that the relative rotation between the first and second involute elements adjusts the gap between them.

    • A machine for forming a serpentine heat exchanger having a predetermined length from a continuously formed spine fin tubing. A supply of continuously formed spine fin tubing is directed to a forming and bending head in predetermined increments where it is bent in alternate directions about a central axis to form the serpentine heat exchanger. Prior to the bending action the portion to be bent is deformed into a cross section having its major axis parallel with the longitudinal axis of the tube and perpendicular to the central axis. The following bending operation causes the tube diameter across the major axis to decrease as the wall in the area of the outer curve migrates radially inwardly due to its failure to elongate sufficiently, in effect, the cross sectional area in the completed bent portion is substantially equal to the cross sectional area of the tube before the deforming and bending operation.

    • A process for bonding metal strip or panels containing inflatable passageways, wherein the passageway may be uninflated, partially inflated, preformed, or fully inflated. The strip or panels are eventually fully inflated to form one or more fluid passageways. The strip or panel is maintained under tension and is bent by contacting it with a die spindle while it is under tension. The strip or panel will be forced ahead and around the die spindle, thus creating elongation. Upon completion of the bend, the strip or panel may be inflated using air, water, or any other inflation medium. The inflation can be accomplished while the strip or panel is still under tension, or they may be freely inflated after removal of the tension. An apparatus for carrying out the process comprises a die spindle shaped to substantially mate with the strip or panel which is to be bent. The die spindle is secured to a rotatable bending arm, which is adapted to traverse the die spindle through an arc, which intercepts the strip or panel, forcing the strip or panel ahead and around the die spindle. The apparatus also contains means for 4879888X tension to the strip or panel while it is being bent. The tension is preferably slightly less than the yield strength at 0.2 percent offset of the strip or panel. The apparatus is also capable of automatic and continuous operation and is ideally suited to the formation of serpentine-like configurations for use in heat exchangers.
