    • The inventive method is used to make 3-Dimensional reinforced and flanged parts from filaments which are braided or wound flat (parallel to the surface of a mandrel).The method comprises the steps of:depositing a first layer of impregnated reinforcements on a mandrel parallel to the surface of the mandrel;placing separators on a portion of said first layer;depositing a second layer of impregnated reinforcements over the separators and said first layer;cutting said layers at the separators;removing said layers from the mandrel;parting the layers along said separators;removing said separators from said reinforcements;placing said cut and partially separated layers in a mold;conforming the layers to the shape of the mold;curing said impregnated reinforcements into a composite part; andremoving said composite part from said mold.

    • The invention disclosed is an apparatus for making a thermoplastic film embossed with tapered bosses having perforations in the tips of each boss through use of a metallic pattern roll and a heated perforating roll. The apparatus and method allow a film having tapered bosses with decreased cross-sectional areas leading to a perforation to be formed without use of expensive vacuum forming methods.The invention discloses a film 10 being heated by a heating means 14 to a deformable state and being embossed on an embossing surface 16 of embossing roll 13 under pressure from the silicone rubber surface 33 of first pressure roll 15. The flm on the apex, 262 of the cone 26 on embossing surface 16 is removed to perforate the cone by perforating roll 17, which is a resilient hollow metal tube heated from a radiant heater mounted on the inside of the hollow metal tube. The perforated film is then embossed a second time by the action of a second embossing roll 18 and then rewound onto a rewind roll.

    • A cutter hub for use in an underwater pelletizer such as disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,123,207, issued Oct. 31, 1978, which includes a replaceable, double or single edged blade attached to each arm of the hub with a major portion of the length of the blade being attached to and supported by the arm on the hub thereby resulting in less axial deflection with increased cutting pressure, since the rigid hub arm carries the rotational stress without deflection of the critical blade cutting surface. This arrangement produces higher quality pellets, fewer knife adjustments, reduces the radial wear pattern on the pellet die plate, permits the use of thinner, less costly blades and permits the use of single edged or double-edged blade with a useable second side.

    • A method is disclosed to embed a perforated body in a cake of soap and to align that body perforation with a transverse hole in the soap so that a support post can easily penetrate the body hole to support the soap by the embedded body.The flat sheet like body is inserted edgewise into bar soap through a slot in the soap created during the soap extrusion. The problem of aligning the hole in the body with the hole in the soap during the high speed production of cake soap is overcome by first placing the body in the soap at the desired location within a distance of one half the diameter of the hole in the body. The final exact location of the body hole is achieved by a pointed punch creating a hole in the soap by the point on the punch picking up the body hole and shifting the body as needed by a corresponding sized portion of the punch entering the body hole.
